What to do with old Star Trek memorabilia?

I have this boxed collection of over a hundred items dating from the late eighties through the very early 2000's, lots of figures, film cels, cereal boxes, stickers, old computer games, various toys, models, and assorted collectibles. More than half of them are unopened.

I'm not necessarily desperate to get cash for it, and I don't have high hopes that it's worth much (although I'd obviously take some money if possible), but at the very least I'd rather see it go to a home that will keep it rather than the landfill.

I don't have space for it! What should I do?

PS. I don't personally have the time to engage in eBay or Kijiji or whatever. To price, photo, post, and mail each of these items myself is simply not feasible. So I'm looking for (serious) suggestions of an alternate solution.

Thanks.

I had a collection of old Tonka trucks and other old toys, and I was in the same boat as you. I loaded them in my trunk, and went to a toy show/flea market near my home and picked a Vendor I got a good vibe from. I arranged with the Vendor and Security Staff to back my car up very near where the Vendor's stall was, and he came to my open trunk. He looked the stuff over, and started pointing and naming prices. The whole process took about 30 minutes, and everyone was happy. Good Luck! Or, if you are near Chicago... :bolian:

Donate it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. They'll sell it and use the proceeds to help the poor.

I like your thinking, but true story, BillJ:

A family member was working at Good Will, and a couple of boxes of Star Trek/
Star Wars items came in. The Manager quickly "appropriated" the goods, and bragged about later selling them. The family member did inform the PTB. I do not know the outcome of that. :(

It sounds like you definitely have stuff that would sell at a convention or toy show. I guess you need to find a vendor to take the lot off your hands, or sell under consignment.

Do you have a comic shop nearby? Maybe they'd be interested.

There are a couple vintage and antique stores around here that sell all kinds of tv and movie related stuff. If you've got those in your town maybe they'd be willing to buy them off you?

Alternate ideas: used record stores, comic shops, mom'n'pop toy stores?

I have the same issue, magnified by living in NYC, and paying $$$ for storage of a huge collection. If anyone is in the area, and wants to talk Trek for an afternoon, go through the huge collection, they are welcome to take almost anything on the spot!

Really, PM me if interested.

Salvation Army uses their resources to help murder queer people in foreign countries.

That is quiet an impressive accusation.

As for your dilemma, if you don't want to make any money, do you have any charity shops linked with say a hospice or cancer charity you could donate your goods to.

This sort of thing is actually pretty common in Good Will. Donated items which are too valuable to put in the stores are meant to be auctioned off on Good Will's website. Unfortunately, Good Will's managers have very little oversight so who knows how many things are misplaced in the process...

I'd recommend taking them to a comic shop, finding a private party who's interested in buying the lot, or just giving them away to a Trekkie friend. Of course, eBay would net you the most money, but it also means a lot of extra work.

I still use the Star Trek mouse cursors, Star Trek Fonts and Star Trek icons I bought from a vendor in the late 1990's at a convention.

Post proof, or retract.

About as close as I can find are a couple articles from the Huffington Post...

Thanks. I still don't see, if you'll pardon the expression, the smoking gun, as it pertains to the charge of being an accomplice to murder.

Yeah, I'm not seeing that too, it's a massive leap from being anti LGBT (which isn't right anyway but is unfortunately very widespread around the world ) to actively removing those LGBT individuals from existence as chrinFinity claimed.

I agree that it is one heck of a leap. If the original poster has more relevant information, I'd love to see it.
