I really don't like the Man of Steel theme. It's like Hans Zimmer wants to hit some very high notes and then backs down at the last possible second. It's a score that wants to be livelier but has to settle for something more monotone.

I really like the Lois & Clark and Superman: TAS themes, but they're purposely derivative of the iconic Williams score, so they lose a few points for that.

Williams. The earlier themes had that heraldic quality, but Williams' theme took that aspect and made it more majestic and sophisticated.

I'm mostly curious to see responses that aren't Williams. There will be some for sure, but 99% of the world probably goes for Williams.

This would have been a more interesting poll if it was sans Williams. There have been plenty of other great Supes themes, but none have ever become as widely iconic. It is THE Superman theme.

This is the best quality video I could find on Youtube unfortunately, but here's the legendary Muhammad Ali in the 1996 Olympics receiving a replacement medal.

I'm sharing this because of the music the Olympic Committee chose for him. As a kid, it gave me tingles, especially the image of the then-modern heroes hugging Ali in support and tribute. It goes to show the impact of the Williams score.

I love Hans Zimmer's Man of Steel theme so much, but John Williams gets the win because it's pretty much defined my childhood.

Williams, with TAS as a solid second.

Williams is such an iconic score that both Smallville and Returns used it in powerful ways.

It is definitely a noticeable absence these days. I wish some of the Elfman Batman theme was incorporated into modern Batman movies.

This also reminds me.... slightly curious why no fan editors have ever rescored Star Trek: TAS with TOS music!

And of course the choice of theme was doubly appropriate because of this:

Not surprisingly I voted for the Williams' theme as it still brings me up in goosebumps. To me it is the Superman Theme not juts the Christopher Reeve Superman Theme. You know if they are trying to make Superman ultimately become more like the Man of Steel we know and love in the DCEU as I believe Zack Snyder and others have claimed and with Hans Zimmer born, I think Justice League would be a perfect time to bring it back. Even if its just the fanfare playing at a crucial moment.

When I read the words "Superman Theme" what pops into my head is the George Reeves theme. It's the one that was in my head for nearly two decades before Chris Reeve hit the screen.

As I recall, the derfinitive work on the subject was performed by the Unipiper.

John Williams, then Lois & Clark, then the George Reeves show, and finally Superman the Animated Series.
