What is "O'mat Gri T'M pffiots", the klingon dish seen in "Heart of Glory"?

Would you try this dish?

  • No way in Gre'thor, this dish has most likely a nasty and unappetizing secret.

I always wondered about the things that Worf, Korris and Konmell ate in that episode, because it looked so much like human cuisine. From the context of that episode, that the three Klingons were celebrating their gathering, it could be that "O'mat Gri T'M pffiots" might be a klingon delicacy.

Another question is, based on the look of the food, is it something that humans can eat and enjoy?

Here's a pic of the food:

I think i'd like to try it. Looked really tasty imo.

But otherwise, Korris and Konmell were rather fundamentalistic Klingons and the gathering was all about embracing their klingon identity. So there might be a reason why Riker didn't try this dish in "A Matter of Honor" and we saw no other human eating it.

We never saw or heard about this dish after "Heart of Glory". So i made this thread for theories about what it might be what the Klingons were eating and drinking in that episode.

Looks like a broasted turkey atop a bed of iceberg lettuce, shrouded by three glasses and a bottle of booze. Or some critter that didn't look much unlike a chicken once all its feathers or fur were removed.

Here's the fun thing - as you alluded to, not all species can eat and drink the same things. Even on Earth, within the same species, more than 70% of the human population can drink milk due to being lactose intolerant. We can't eat certain berries but birds will nibble at them and only get drunk. Never feed a dog chocolate. Granted, Fido and Fluffers and Frank and Fran can all eat chicken - depending on what spices aren't used while roasting it. Even then, Frank might be allergic to one of the spices used when preparing it. Or Fluffers for that matter.

TNG floats around all the food issues as such, in both Heart of Glory and A Matter of Honor. At least another season 2 episode astutely has that oddly disliked character, Dr Pulaski, acknowledging that what she is about to drink with Worf is deadly to humans (but only an irritant for Klingon physiognomy) but knows the antidote so she takes it so she can also partake. That's the level of depth TNG needed more often - knowing what is edible, what isn't, compensating where possible.

But despite all that, I'd expect Riker to dig in just for the thrill of it, regardless. :D

It looks like Blood Chardonnay( O'mat) which is Blood wine slightly diluted with stomach secretions of targ.

The meaty looking selection is a fine cut of Gri, which is nothing more than warmed Gri (which is a medium sized fish) stomach, contents and all. (Gri T'M pffoit)

( only fake Klingons clean out the stomach contents before warming)(Gri T'M)

It is a Warrior meal:klingon:

Sounds delicious  Am i right to assume that you'd like to try it ;)

What do you think it tastes like for humans? Do you think it is one of the most ordered dishes by humans at DS9's klingon restaurant?

I'm vegitarian :wah:
So no blood wine for me, which is made of blood from a fruit bat like creature on Kronos.
They drain a little blood from the bats and let it ferment.
And no fish stomach either for me.

the Gri, fish stomach tastes like chicken with fish undertones, it is very oily which reminds humans of Walnut oil that has gone rancid.

I'm pretty sure that a favorite food of Klingons and non-Klingons is Gagh.

It's the pasta of the Klingon World.
Yep, sure people eat it almost plain but on Kronos you can get it with all sorts of different sauces and spices, it varies by region.
Anyway I'd have to stick with Bajoran food.
Mopa grass and Ketterpods.
:sigh:
( I'm pretty sure that I made up Mopa grass)

But is it Kosher?

Hadn't realised this was the spelling - I always heard it as Omat Green Tea with Piviots which I assumed was a Klingon lunch dish like tea and scones (never noticed the cooked meat in the back of the tray)

Scones?:wtf:
Scones!??!? :wtf:
Klingons don't eat scones!!!!!:klingon:

I'd bet Klingons love pigs feet, rocky mountain oysters, scorpions on a stick, and a bunch of other fun foods.

I wonder if they'd like inferno wings.

Klingons would like many "manly" Earth noms. And whiskey.

I like the Last Unicorn Games interpretation of the Andorians which says their tastebuds sense salt as "spicy" and developed an Andorian captain who drinks Laphroaig Scotch because the briney edge is basically chilli to him, on top of the smoke, so it's like liquid chipotle.
