What ever happened to these officers?

Hikaru_Ichijo

Commander
Red Shirt
We never did hear from Ensign Sonya Gomez after her second appearance in Up the Long Ladder; Nurse Ogawa after First Contact; and that spiky-haired female bridge officer who used to wear the gold uniform on TNG, then switched to being the red shirt helmsman whose console exploded in her face in Generations, only then to return in a gold uniform in First Contact (anyone know her name?).

Do the novels follow up on any of these characters? I know Ensign Robin Lefler ended up in the New Frontier novels.

Do you mean Jae?

She was in Insurrection? Wow, I never caught that. Then again, it's the ONLY Trek movie I have yet to own :p

The actress was also a Borg, and on DS9 she played different alien extras. I believe she was in some of the computer games too.

Too bad TPTB never gave her a official name, she was in the show a lot.

:)

Since Gomez was featured (somewhat) prominently in her two episodes, I'm guessing they intended to bring her back Lycia Naff in future episodes. Did something happen behind the scenes that I haven't heard about?

Around the early 1990's she left the acting business and pursued a career in journalism.

I don't know that that is the reason there was never a third appearance of Ensign Gomez, it's possible that she had acting schedule conflicts when the show wanted her back and the show when with a different character plugged into "her" role.

:)

The TNG Companion says that she was written in to the two episodes for the comedic value, and then dropped. This implies that whatever little comedic asides the writers had tried to do they weren't happy with so her character was dropped.

^^^ Pity, she could have turned into what Wesley never was. Happy to be where she was, popular, funny, attractive, a neophyte fresh out of the academy beginning her career.

Lost opportunity.

:)

Leffler and Gomez are my two favorite flash-in-the-pan, never-seen-again ensigns. They both made big enough impressions to be featured in tons of fan fiction later. (Including mine :D )

And Lefler was a regular in the fanfilm series Hidden Frontier. Sadly not played by anyone who looked like Ashley Judd.

I may be wrong, but wasn't Gomez featured in the book series Starfleet Corps of Engineers?

I'm sure I read somewhere that Gomez was a potential love interest for Geordi, or maybe I just dreamt that up.

I've heard that, as well, although it seems that seemingly every female character in the Trek universe has been named as a love interest for Geordi at one time or another.
