We "Designing Women" fans have lost another star.

Designing Women was one of those shows I only saw the odd episode of, never watching religiously (though, as a kid, I had a crush on Annie Potts, so that would cause me to always watch it when channel surfing). I remember liking the character of Anthony a lot.

I also enjoyed him as Hollywood Montrose in both Mannequin movies. As a kid at the time, he just seemed odd, though as an adult, it's interesting to look back at how outlandish and flamboyant Hollywood was.

Recently, my kids have been watching re-runs of Neds Declassified, where Mesach played a teacher turned principal.

Mesach was able to infuse these roles (as I'm sure he was others) with a warmth and decency that makes the instantly likable.

Rest in peace, Mr. Taylor.

Damn :(. I loved him as Anthony in "Designing Women" and he did really well in Mannequin. RIP, Mr. Taylor. You'll be missed.

Oh man. Anthony was the one I identified with the most on the show. Meshach Taylor played him so sweetly, and with such comedic timing. May he rest in peace.

I didn't like Designing Women so I didn't watch it but I liked his character on Dave's World. Rest in peace Mr. Taylor.

I wasn't much of a Designing Women fan (my mom loved that show though), but I remember him mainly as the voice of Wedge in the radio version of Star Wars: A New Hope. He appeared in episodes 12 and 13.

I watched DW occasionally and liked it, Anthony was always enjoyable. And though Hollywood is a fairly offensive stereotype today, he was funny as him.

Yeah, this saddens me.

I was a big fan of Designing Women and Taylor's Anthony was a major reason. When the series first started, he was essentially doing not much more than cameos--showing up to deliver a brief zinger (or be the recipient of one), and then would be gone as quickly as he appeared. Somehow Taylor managed to inject such a genuine likeability into what was initially a small reoccurring role that the producers eventually made him into one of the show's main characters--and one that underwent a journey from being a ex-con delivery man for the ladies, to one of the partners in their firm, to a law school graduate. In it's own way, that was inspirational to me as Anthony came up from the bottom.

Rest easy, Meshach.

^^And that's why I added that interview clip.

"Anthony" was supposed to be a "one off" guest shot in season 1, but the producers saw something in his chemistry with the other actors that they not only kept him on the show, they allowed his character to grow on the show.

Makes you realize the truth in the adage, "there are no small parts, just small actors". This actor turned that small part into a 7 year meal ticket.

Loved him as Hollywood, and he was the source of one of my earliest film-based nightmares...being cut in half in Damien: Omen II.

RIP. :(
