Was God a Cytherian

Even given the unusual elements of Star Trek 5, there's a lot of similarities between "God" and the Cytherians from The Nth Degree. God brainwashed Sybok so he could bring a starship to His homeworld. The Cytherians reprogrammed Barclay so he could bring a starship to their homeworld. Both God and the Cytherians live near the center of the galaxy. Both appear as disembodied heads with much power and knowledge. Was this intentional? Was God an evil, exiled Cytherian?

BTW, I'm not saying the real God, if He exists either in Star Trek or real life, is a Cytherian. Just the entity in Star Trek 5.

I think this is more or less the accepted belief, it even kind of explains how the Enterprise-A was able to get to the center of the galaxy (we can assume Sybok modified the engines when we weren't looking) so fast. It just seems "God" was an imprisoned Cytherian and the alien we meet in "Nth Degree" was a "good" one part of an exploration/learning team or group.

If anything, I think Nth Degree was made to "fix" ST:V.

I'm not of the belief tht there is a galactic barrier. But the Nth Degree episode seems consistent with ST:V.

The creators of this episode are on record as saying that yes, ST V's "God entity" was supposedly an imprisoned Cytherian, but they didn't feel there was any need for the script to spell it out. It's an easter egg for TOS fans who recognize the connection.

Thanks! I'm glad the script didn't spell it out, actually. It makes the "easter egg" much more enjoyable.
