Blurb:
When an unstoppable Borg plague breaks out upon Earth, blame quickly falls on the newly returned crew of the Starship Voyage ™. Did Kathryn Janeway and the others unknowingly carry this insidious infection back with them? Many in Starfleet think so, and Seven of Nine, in particular, falls under a cloud of suspicion.
Now, with a little help from the Starship Enterprise ™, Admiral Janeway must reunite her crew in a desperate, last-ditch attempt to discover the true source of the contagion and save Earth itself from total assimilation into a voracious new Borg Collective.
But time is running out.
Has Voyager come home only to witness humanity's end?

My (short) review from about a deacde ago:

Although there ist a increase in quality compared to Homecoming, since here the main plot is getting some steam, overall The Farther Shore is only average. Many of my gripes with Homecoming are in play here as well. In my opinion the roles are weighted a bit to uneven, although some of the Voyager crew are present for the whole story, they are only statists. Chakotay for example doesn't really fulfills any meaningful role, he's just there. All in all The farther Shore isn't really able to noticably elevate itself above the mediocre quality of pre-finale Voyager fiction.

The best of Goldens Voyager continuations.

Average.

Re: Voyager: The farther Shore by Christie Golden Review Thread (Spoil

I liked the original VOY-R duology much better than what came from Christie Golden afterwards. Still doesn't hold a candle to Kirsten Beyer's VOY-R novels ;)

My review:

"Meh."

Re: Voyager: The farther Shore by Christie Golden Review Thread (Spoil

I enjoyed the novel and liked how every VOY character was given something to do in the Alpha Quadrant. The storylines felt like natural paths for the characters.

Libby was the best of the early VOY-R characters. Golden expanded her greatly from her single canon appearance and made her sympathetic and useful.

Poor Voyager to be gutted so thoroughly by Starfleet. Fortunately, one upgrade remained (confirmed by Full Circle), the astrometrics lab.

I always wished that Voyager wasn't gutted like that, but I guess it makes sense. I wonder how much of their upgrades and new tech made it out to the fleet? I know that Slipstream did, as well as the transphasic torpedoes...but i'm not sure what else. Does anyone know if there is a list of the new tech that Voyager added in its original voyage?

Re: Voyager: The farther Shore by Christie Golden Review Thread (Spoil

There was the shield of nanites that Voyager used in "Endgame ", and of course the Delta Flyer could be considered an upgrade as Voyager did not have it when it was pulled into the Delta Quadrant. And there would be all those specs for future technologies that Admiral Janeway brought back that Seven said were incompatible with Voyager at the current time, but that doesn't mean that they couldn't be adapted for use later.

Re: Voyager: The farther Shore by Christie Golden Review Thread (Spoil

^I should have mentioned the Delta Flyer! I love that ship! I forget where I read it, but I believe Starfleet has made more Flyer's since Voyager returned home. Maybe it was in Titan? Not sure...but I think there are several of them in the fleet nowadays. I don't remember any mention in Kirsten's books, but hopefully the FC fleet brought a few along with them :)

Voyager had the ablative armor too but they took it off . I have read Christie Golden;s fantasy saga THE LAST DANCE and i enjoyed it. But Kirsten is the master :)

Re: Voyager: The farther Shore by Christie Golden Review Thread (Spoil

I voted below average.

Re: Voyager: The farther Shore by Christie Golden Review Thread (Spoil

I read Homecoming and Farther Shore as one book, and I enjoyed. Actually the Finale I wished Endgame was. Course I haven't read any of Beyer's yet.

^^^Mother of God, man, get on that.

Indeed, Titan is equipped with a Flyer-class shuttle. (TTN: Over a Torrent Sea)

On Delta Flyer appearances, on top of my head I can think of Tom's flight to Loran II and the encounter at Riley's Planet.

Do all Starfleet ships have bio-neural gel-packs by now?

Concerning Voyager's tech, a mobile emitter is available in civilian use since before Voyager's Return. (Homecoming/The Farther Shore) I wonder why they didn't give Moriarty one.

This is average to me, but I also liked it better than Endgame.

In "The Light Fantastic" it Barclay mentioned that Starfleet was unable to duplicate the Doctor's mobile emitter as some of the tech was still years in the future.

Re: Voyager: The farther Shore by Christie Golden Review Thread (Spoil

Yeah. I'm still a couple years behind on TNG, DS9 and Titan, but I still made a point of getting caught up on Voy as quickly as I could. Kirsten's books are amazing. I haven't read Christy Golden's books though.

Did The Light Fantastic mention what happened to the one that Emperor Kahless used in A Time for War, A Time for Peace?

Re: Voyager: The farther Shore by Christie Golden Review Thread (Spoil

No, but Full Circle did.
