Van Helsing is set in a world dominated and controlled by vampires. Vanessa Helsing is the last hope for survival, as she unknowingly awakens to discover she has a unique blood composition that makes her not only immune to vampires, but with the ability to turn a vampire human. With this secret weapon, Vanessa becomes a prime target for the vampires, while trying to save humanity. Van Helsing comes from the producers of Fargo and Hell on Wheels. Acclaimed director/playwright Neil LaBute serves as showrunner.

The trailer didn't totally blow me away, but I've been pretty happy with most of Syfy's last few shows, so I'll probably check it out.

Interesting for two reasons:

(1) Neil Labute is a pretty damned divisive writer - his film work has a strong edge of seething masculinity, misanthropy AND misogynistic characters, but he has interesting things to say. Never knew he even made TV and has been doing it for some time now. Be interesting to see him take on Vampires and a lead heroine given his work has been mostly from the male perspective. Though he has been quoted as basing Vanessa on Ripley from Alien, which is nice.
(2) Simon Barry is a writer and Exec Producer too, who was the creator and showrunner of Continuum, who I thought had some really interesting takes on time, morals and Sci-Fi doodaddery.

So, with them in the seat this has my attention. Here's hoping for another decent show to add to The Expanse/12 Monkeys/The Magicians

Hugo - I get so used to saying what people want to hear I forget sometimes they might just want the truth.

At first glance, it sort of looks like they just combined Wynonna Earp and Z Nation. Looks about as low budget too.

I wasn't aware of Labute's history, that does make me a little more cautious.

Did anyone watch this? Is this what Z Nation is like? Based on the pilot, I'm going to have to pass. There were a couple characters with interesting possibilities, especially the one that the episode ended on, but other than that this was a whole bunch of stupid. No one was really given much of a character to work with in the pilot, but I still didn't like the blonde and the husband that were among the group of people they saved. All they did was say and do really stupid things throughout the episode, which was partially a symptom of the military guys letting these people wander around unwatched and do whatever they want. "Stay away from this caged vampire that you were trying to kill. Now I'll leave you unattended while I go somewhere else."

The setting is pretty much the same as I am Legend. The original Matheson book, not the movie.

Wow. I made it fifteen minutes in then had to get rid of it. That was some awful, awful stuff. The actors (and I'm using that term only because it's technically correct) certainly didn't help either.

Don't think I'm going to bother with this, unless I see another commercial or something that really draws my interest.

Eh, too much to watch already.

Hugo - someone find me the time to watch Bojack Horseman S3! Please!!

The best I can say about it is it didn't suck...very hard...

Still not gonna bother with it...

Bumping this thread to remind anyone who wants to watch this that it's on tonight. I'll be passing.

Is anyone else watching this? I thought the pilot wasn't very good, but I quite liked episodes 2 and 3.
