Orville being from the year 2419 might have more capability than what Discovery has if the year is any indication. Orville's quantum drive is considerably faster than the warp drive of starfleet ships. Discovery being from the year 2256 has some advantages like transporter technology and the spore drive. But which one would win in a fight?

Hard to say. We don't have enough data on Orville's weapons yet. We need some comparable data points.

The USS Exeter, commanded by Ronald Tracy, destroys them both in under 12.3 seconds.

Tough choice really. The Discovery has the Spore Drive as it's biggest advantage but the real question we should ask is...can it hug the donkey? I think not. ;)

Orville and DISC have the same old Star Trek writers but Discovery has more money so it gets better writers.

I think Discovery would win pretty easily. The Orville is quite small and really not a warship. The Discovery is no Constitution, but she can take big hits and dish them out. The Orville has relatively weak weapons and shields, and mostly relies on agility and tricks to defeat opposing ships. This probably wouldn't work as well against a Starfleet crew as it does against the Krill. This is without accounting for the relative tech levels of course, which are basically impossible to quantify.

Discovery has transporters and Orville doesn't, right? Discovery can teleport itself anywhere in the universe at will, and Orville has to [whatever they call their off-brand warp drive] around the galaxy.

Seems pretty one sided.

Really because glancing through IMDB the only Trek connection in the STD writing I noticed was Joe Menosky who is only credited in episode 6, discounting Bryan Fuller I don't think we'll ever fully know his involvement. Orville seems to have been primarily written by MacFarlane with credits to Brannon Braga, André Bormanis, David Goodman in episodes 6 & 8. The writer of this weeks episode of STD didn't even manage to sell scripts to ST:VOY not sure throwing money always gets you quality!

Doubt that, good writers will always want more money to write a good script. Nostalgia can only go so far. Also do not use STD for Discovery only haters do that.

With the spore drive, discovery would just leave leave torpedoes and then.... like in episode 4

I think that Mercer would probably be smart enough to keep his ship out of the kind of bumbling error.

If only that were true.
