Beach's contract was kind of like Chris Eccleston's: It was only for one year, with the option to renew. So it's not unrest, really. And he has said he enjoyed doing the show.

Unless they were getting rid of Belzer or Ice-T, Beach seemed shoehorned into the show as the fifth detective.

Eh, good riddance. I didn't like Lake even in his guest appearance, so I wasn't thrilled when he was added to the cast. With him gone, hopefully Munch will get more screen time.

Given that Neal is leaving and if it was intended that Lake was going to be love interest for her character so came to naught and being an uneeded fifth detective it shouldn't be suprising that he's not staying on.

Despite the N.Y. Post-like title of the thread , wasn't Beach originally brought in because Belzer was doing another project or project(s)? Hence the lack of screen time this season.

Since I don't watch Law and Order, this is good news. It frees up Beach for other projects.

I second the good riddence. To me, it seemed he spoke in this really slow monotone. Can't stand it actually! Didn't like him guest starring, and really didn't like him as a cast member.

I'll be very sad to see Diane Neal go though.

I hope they'd never do that. I love their pairing. They play off each other so well.
