Ultimate Original Series Starship Compendium?

Okies, a few questions here.. I've decided to start putting my stuff together for a PDF archive, and was thinking that something a little more.. dramatic was in order, something akin to Jackill's fine compilation books.

So, while being informal, what Federation ships from TOS, other than the venerable Constitution class would everyone want to see? (please stick to a few answers... :) )

Also, should the dish be mandatory on designs with only primary hulls (ala FJ and SFB) or only on hulls designed to support them (ala FASA)?

Lastly, what sort of 'treknotech' should be included in the book?

So... one yes, one no, and a 'whatever' on the dish...

And, like I said, all pre-refit, TOS era only.

I suddenly feel the urge to cry! :brickwall:

I don't know any specific names, but anything that isn't a rehash of Enterprise components and looks half-decent would be greatly appreciated ;)

Oh, and IMO, anything from FJ's Star Fleet Tech Manual (minus the SF Headquarters perhaps) and the Ships of the Star Fleet series (plus related materials like Heavy Cruiser Evolution, Starship Design and Fed Recognition Chart) should go in.

Dishes.. meh. If it works for the design, sure. For example, not all Saladin-derived ships had dishes, but maybe a few had the SotSF dish-on-a-stick, and others had a complete mini-secondary-hull, a la Masao's interpretation. Talking of the SF Museum, if there is one article I could choose for an 'ultimate collection', it would be the Avenger/Predator destroyers.

What he said there ^

keep the dishes!

Aaken, Anton, Cochrane, Consolation, Constitution, Derf, Federation, Kirov, Larson, Loknar, Ptolemy, Saladin, Type G Outpost, Type G Starbase, Type K Starbase

It would be neat to see Starscape's Starship Spitfire included.

http://www.trekbbs.com/showpost.php?p=1165423&postcount=7

It would also be to neat see a logical descendant of the Daedalus, with TOS-tech and lines incorporated. It could use some of the shapes and overall structure used in Karim Nassar's take on the Daedalus: http://www.karimnassar.com/design/daedalus.php

I think you already know I am a decidedly pro-dish person. Of course, you've already heard the broken record about starships having even numbers of nacelles; I think Saladin/Hermes should either look more like Ptolemy or, maybe even better, having one nacelle above the saucer and one below, with twin dishes on the neck/pylons leading to the nacelles. (The symmetry of nacelles in pairs looks much better.) Another Saladin/Hermes alternative would be something like your Onodata: like a distant descendant of the NX-class.

Here's a new take on the Federation-class. Ditch the secondary hull. Make it a two-nacelled, big-saucered starscout. Only use the curvier saucer from FJ, not the more angular saucer used in more recent fanon takes on FJ's Federation-class.

I think the secondary hull from FJ's Federation-class should be its own starship, only with the hangar in the rear and no saucer or third nacelle.

There should also be a TOS predecessor to the Miranda/Reliant.

Here are some logical possibilities for your compendium, courtesy of Masao, only they should be drawn with TOS trappings:

http://www.starfleet-museum.org/sf-transports.htm

http://www.starfleet-museum.org/hyperion.htm

http://www.starfleet-museum.org/moskva.htm

And here are a couple Masao ideas for a specialty transport/tug for space station component hauling (my Colere concept):

http://www.starfleet-museum.org/pioneer.htm

http://www.starfleet-museum.org/olympus_mons.htm

http://www.starfleet-museum.org/conqueror.htm

Just imagine any of these with TOS lines. What would be considered the "bow" on Masao's ships would be the "stern" of a transport/tug, with the big cylinder being jettisoned as a pod at the destination.

Ships I'd like to see included:
Saladin-class Destroyer
Miranda-class light cruiser (pre refit)
Loknar-class Destroyer
Ptolemy-class Tug/Transport

As to the dish, either way is fine by me.

My two cents:

-All the Franz Joseph ships.

-Kearsarge-class New Light Cruiser

-Burke-class Frigate

-Kirov-Class Heavy Battlecuiser

-Ares-class Battleship

-Napoleon-class Heavy Carrier

-Nimitz-class Strike Carrier

-Prometheus-class Strike Cruiser

-Mohammed Aidid-class War Destroyer

-Marko Ramius-class Battle Frigate

-Wolverine-class Fast Cruiser

-Star Tiger-class Light Dreadnought

-Entente-class Dreadnought

-Surya-class

-Loknar-class

Include any and all ships actually seen on screen. Include TOS versions of Miranda, Oberth. Even that silly looking starship Aurora from Way to Eden.

As for a dish? I personally feel there has to be something on the ship to serve the same function. I don't recall the Miranda class having one, so I guess they don't really need one.

Well, it looks like the FJ ships (Hermes, Saladin, Ptolemy, and Federation) are definitely in, as is the Loknar and Larson.

The SFB ships might require some negotiation. I'm pretty sure that the straight-up variants or 'light modified' variants (such as the Kirov) won't be an issue, but the more unique designs might be. I'll have to somehow get in tough with SVC again over it.

Some version of a TOS Miranda will be in place... maybe more than one. There's a few 'conflicting' designs out there...

Antares and Woden types will be in.

I'm actually going to play with a dish/hook design tomorrow as my first 'real' Canvas project. From there I'll decide about the feasibility of the sensor-pod attachment setup. :)
