Uh - what? Target Stadium aka Minnesota Twins new stadium...

I don't understand this. I thought I did but then it made no sense. First off, apparently the new stadium is smaller than the Metrodome by a few thousand people. Secondly, do they not think that it snows in early April in Minnesota? So what do they do? Schedule every game in April as an away game? Hell I thought I heard it snows in early May as well. Postpone games? I thought looking at the diagram that it was going to be a retractable roof dome as well. Nope. They decided to 'return to the elements of Minnesota'. Sure, right. And third, how much is Pohlad putting up? He's going to be pocketing lots of money...But seriously. SNOW - MINNESOTA - TORNADO ALLEY...WTF?

The Twins played for 20 years at Met Stadium and the weather wasn't that much of a factor. And there are plenty of other northern teams that do fine with out a dome. A dome might have been nice, but between Polhad's tight pockets and the opposition to spending a lot of public money for a stadium, it wasn't feasible. One need only to look at the Vikings situation to see that: They keep coming up with all of these elaborate stadium plans that get shot down right away.

I have no problem with the size either. The seating capacity is lower, but it's a baseball-only stadium. Better to have a stadium with good seating than one with plently of plenty of seating but crappy viewing from most.

I can't wait for the new stadium to open.

True but this was becoming an ire with some in the baseball community that they had open stadiums in the north where it snowed a lot and the weather was so unpredictable.

I'm well aware of what Minnesota weather is like, but in the end, domed stadiums simply don't work for baseball.

The Metrodome? Sucks. I mean, even the Vikings don't want to play there anymore - after the Twins leave, the Vikings will probably tear it down and play at TCF Bank Stadium (where the Golden Gophers play) while they build a new arena on the same site.

Tropicana Field? Almost as bad (but at least it's baseball-only).

The advantages the Twins will realize by moving to a *real* ballpark will, IMHO, far outweigh any weather considerations.

Why not? I've been in Chase Field with the roof open and closed, and the experience is not that different.

I'm not talking about ballparks with a retractable roof. That's different. At least they *can* be opened. In most of those, they only play with the roof closed when the weather is bad, don't they?

I was referring to stadiums with a permanent, fixed dome. Metrodome, the Trop, etc. Those couldn't be opened without a wrecking ball. And that's just wrong. Baseball is not supposed to be played like that on a permanent basis.

In Arizona that probably means most of the season. Nobody wants to go sit through a baseball game in 100 degree plus weather on a regular basis.

I'm of the opinion that every sports stadium should have a retractable roof to avoid rainouts and such (excluding football, which should be played in any kind of weather). But permanent domes suck, bigtime.
