"Turn Left" and Sarah Jane continuity

I just watched "Turn Left" again today, and it occurred to me that it's a bit difficult getting it to line up with Sarah Jane Adventures continuity.

First, it's stated that Sarah Jane, Luke, Maria, and Clyde died in the hospital during the alt-"Smith and Jones". So that means, "Revenge of the Slitheen" must occur before "Smith and Jones" since that's when they meet Clyde. Fair enough.

But then there's the meteor from "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane Smith?" which apparently *doesn't* strike the Earth; someone must have stopped it. It's a bit of a stretch to put most of SJA season 1 prior to "Smith and Jones", after all. I suppose it could have been Torchwood, although one wonders why they didn't stop it in the WHSJS timeline in that case.

Are there any other world-threatening events from SJA or TW that should have happened but didn't prior to the stars going out?

talking of, 2 more series of SJA has been confirmed

Doctor Who spinoff The Sarah Jane Adventures has been recommissioned for two new series, it has been announced. The fourth and fifth series will each run to 12 episodes, airing in Autumn 2010 and Autumn 2011 respectively.
Show creator and executive producer Russell T Davies, who left as showrunner on Doctor Who earlier this year, will remain in the role on both new series of SJA.
Nikki Wilson, producer on series three, has been promoted to executive producer, while Torchwood's Brian Minchin has joined the team as a producer.
"We are thrilled to be making many more episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures," said CBBC controller Damian Kavanagh. "It has been a huge ratings and critical success on CBBC and we hope our viewers are going to be hooked on Sarah Jane's action-packed adventures for some time to come."
The fourth series, which begins filming in Cardiff later this month, sees regulars Tommy Knight (Luke), Daniel Anthony (Clyde) and Anjli Mohindra (Rani) return alongside Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane).
Adversaries in the new run of episodes include the Nightmare Man and the Shansheeth, while the gang will travel to an alien world for the first time and take a "dangerous journey back in history".
Series four writers include Phil Ford, Joseph Lidster, Rupert Laight, Gareth Roberts and Clayton Hickman.
an alien world decent, I hope they dont over stretch the budget again.

It's possible Mister Smith could have done it himself - he didn't exist in the WHTSJS timeline because she was never around to find the Xylok crystal, but he'd still exist in the Turn Left timeline after the gang's deaths on the moon.

Why he'd choose to absent of orders is another matter - I suppose Alan might have found out the truth (Maria left a message in case of her death, or somesuch) and took over Sarah's mission.

Yeah, well, people assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, etc.

It's be nice if they'd just hurry up and release SJA season 3 on DVD already.

It's suggested that the Trickster and his cohorts are able to remove certain aspects from the timeline, and yet preserve other things in isolation, in order to achieve the very specific set of circumstances he wants. Similarly, in "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane?", she's removed from the timeline when she's a schoolgirl, and yet all the other things she sorted out in the previous episodes prior to the meteor never destroyed the world then.

I'm still trying to figure out why, if the Doc and Donna weren't there to stop the aliens in Pompeii in "Turn Left", why modern time even looked like it did. I know....timey, wimey.

no, but given the ending of S3, there is no reason to assume he wont make some appearances.

That reminds me of a nice moment they could have had in Turn Left if they'd thought of it:

Post-disaster, Sylvia is reading an Agatha Christie book in the refugee house. Donna says, "Any good?" Sylvia says, "Yes. Wish she'd writen more." "Oh, what happened?" "Died sometime in the 1920s, had only written six books."
