Trekkies: Let's Get Organized!

Samuel T. Cogley

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Starship Polaris has posted this thread over in the Star Trek XI forum.

It involves an essay that points out that Trekkies have been losing members, as if we are a fraternal organization like the Moose or the Knights of Columbus (see my comments in that thread for more information).

So I figured, why not?

Why not elect our own officers of the Trekkies Movement?

Since one doesn't exist, why not appoint ourselves?

Let's let absolute power corrupt us absolutely!

Who's with me?

So, for now, I am just looking for some ideas on organizational structure.

Also welcome are suggestions for the name of our organization (it should sound very powerful, since we are proclaiming ourselves the leaders of all Trekkies everywhere).

Please also suggest officer titles that you think are appropriate. We can hold elections in a few weeks.

If you all think my idea is lame, then I am just going to pronounce myself (Samuel T. Cogley), the Supreme Ruler of all Trekkies everywhere.

(Moderators: I have posted this thread in both GTD and Miscellaneous, mostly because I wasn't sure which was the most appropriate forum for this idea. Please close one or the other if your feel one forum is more appropriate. Preferably, leave them both open. Thanks!)

We need an "Insane Admiral" position--something where the officer can just fly off the handle at random times in order to provide motivation for the plot/adventure/whatever. The office could be rotated monthly, so everyone gets a chance.

Let us also have an elected leader of each series, TOS, TNG, VOY, DS9, and ENT. combined they shall form the United Fandom Council. The actual title of said leaders is open for suggestions.

I like it. Maybe "Keepers of the Flame." One for each series.

We are Treks: The Terrible and Terrifying.
I propose we begin with a hierarchy similar to the one in the book ‘Animal Farm’. Seeing how it was soooo successful. Ahh, the sweet taste of power.
I volunteer to be the keeper of the dog patrol. Anyone who dares to cross me, I just yell out the phrase “sic ‘em!”.
All non-trekkies are beneath us. They shall be over-powered and over-ruled. Today, non-trekkies, tomorrow, the world!
May all Trekkies live long and prosper.

Getting trekkies organised may be dangerous! Check out the Futurama episode "Where no Fan has gone before."

For thoes unaware of the episode in question, Nichelle Nichols states that "By the 23rd century Star Trek fandom had evolved from a loose association of nerds with skin problems into a full blown religion."

"As country after country fell under its influence, world leaders became threatened by the movements power. And so the Trekkies were executed in the manner most befitting virgins."

Do we really want fandom to come to that?!
:p ;)

Some of us tried this in junior high school.

They...they stuffed us in lockers! <sob>

Re Newt...

Of course we do! Otherwise, how else will the prophetic descriptions of the next 1000 years in Futurama come to pass? Cogley's plan is obviously the first step. Onward!

An organised campaign to have Hayden Panettiere play Janice Rand in Trek 11 (my idea) could be a fun way to bring Trek fandom together.

Sorry, but Hayden as Rand wouldn’t work out too well. You see, knowing our dear Kirk-hound the way we do, he would be too busy eye-balling Rand to yell out “Red Alert!” during a Romulan attack. Enterprise would be blasted to smithereens in a mille-second. All would be lost. IMO, best we get someone like Phyllis Diller or even Rosanne to play Rand. It’s the only way to be sure…

Just make sure to throw the word 'Ancient' and 'Mystical' around.

The Ancient and Mystical Star Order of Trekkies.

You'll need a secret handsake, code words, principal texts only shown to initiates (the original 'City on the Edge of Forever' screenplay, perhaps?) and the innate belief that the membership consists of superbeings whose ultimate destiny is to actualize Star Trek.

And free ballpoint pens. ;)

We will also need a regulated interrogtion and torture system for spys who attempt to infiltrate our Trek Movement.

Andromeda reruns.

Nah. An endless loop of Shades of Grey, Threshold, A Night in Sickbay, TATV and Nemesis--that'll show any wanna-be Trekkies!
