http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/NHL/article/708255#commentsIt's been a while since the Toronto Maple Leafs did any cashing in on the ice, but as ever it's a different story at the box office.

According to a recent survey, a Leafs game remains the most expensive night out in the National Hockey League - and it's not even close.
According to Chicago-based Team Marketing Report's annual survey released this week, Maple Leafs games at the Air Canada Centre carry an average ticket price equivalent to $117.49 (U.S.) this season, more than double the league's average price of $51.41.
As for the "Fan Cost Index" - TMR's trademark calculation of the aggregate price for a family of four to attend a game - Toronto checks in at a league-high $628.29 (Canadian) or $585.57 (U.S.), an 8.4 per cent jump after last year's figure of just over $411 (U.S.) was adjusted due to a calculating error, the organization said in a release.

I'm a fan and I won't.

Unfortunately, some fans buy the tickets only to complain about "wasting" their money later on cause the team is horrible. Stupid, stupid people.

Canuck Ticket Prices
Well it I did my math right the average canuck ticket works out to about $88.40
But for me to go even with a nose bleed seat at $55
I'd still have to take the ferry over at a cost of $13.50to walk on, take a bus for $15 to down town (coming home the bus to the ferry fare is $28), find a hotel for another $100 plus.
for a total of $208.50 for one person befor over priced food and beverages.
If I drove my vehicle on the ferry you can add another $90.00(roundtrip) plus their fuel surcharge and I'm at $300 to go to a game.
(Not incl. any souvenirs.)

[I have heard some season ticket holders have sold their tickets to Leaf & hab fans and paid for a lot of the cost of their seasons ticket price, I guess some fans have more money than brains, lol]

That's two of us. I wouldn't pay to see this team. Hell, I won't even watch them on TV. I just check the scores online.

So much for all the hype in the off-season (again).

I love going out to NHL games, but for that price I'd stick with the local ECHL team.

I've pretty much given up on teams that charge high prices. I pay £5/game to watch live basketball these days.

The extra money just isn't worth it.

I pay €150 for a season ticket (18 home games, so €8,3/game) for my club in the top Austrian football (soccer) league. ;)
[those are by far the cheapest tickets though]

I forgot to add the $30 for parking at the terminal for 2 days.
yeah the ECHL is a better bargin but try and find parking around there if you can find a spot at all.
I usally go to the Grizzlies games cheaper and you can find parking.

You Vancouver Islanders, sheesh. Complain, complain, complain. ;)

Unfortunately, some fans buy the tickets only to complain about "wasting" their money later on cause the team is horrible.

those people who complain are not fans in this context.

I belong to the Maple Leafs message board and I'd say a good 30% of bloggers would not be fans in this context.
We belong to a Star Trek message board, and I'd say NO Trekkies could ever be considered a fan of Star Trek in this context. ;)

I used to lurk on the Leafs official board. Then it got a makeover (which sucked) and when I checked a couple days ago, the link to the forums on their homepage was completely gone. Either way, I never joined because I couldn't stand the overwhelming percentage of users with the attitude that if you criticised the team, you weren't a true fan.

And as for the ticket prices, there was an interesting article this week (in the Toronto Star I think) about how the ticket resellers are getting about 50% of the ticket's face value. I'm a fan and I seriously hope the attendance, merchandise and all other revenue takes a tailspin. Ownership needs a wakeup call.

Well, I saw nosebleeds for the Caps for $12 on stubhub. I saw the Coyotes in Phoenix in box seats for $100. Not bad in comparison toe Leafs prices.

You're not the only one who hates the new look. Leafspace, as it's known, was not part of the NHL umbrella and that apparently stuck in the NHL's craw. The new Leafspace is now part of the generic NHL look.

This will happen forever, since the people who buy tickets to the games are usually big companies who get tickets for the prestige more than anything else. It's why you see the front rows half empty well into the start of the first period. It's not about watching the game, it's just about saying you have expensive seats.

The Leafs haven't been good since the 90s and have consistently jacked up prices year after year. They even use the Leafs to leverage Raptors ticket sales. Even if the Leafs go 0-82, they'll find a way to raise ticket prices next year. :p

So why do people waste their time with them?
