Wow, i don't think I can compile a definitive top 10 because of the sheer bulk of material in my collection to choose from, but i'll give it a shot. Metal is a pretty wide definition so excuse me if you don't think some of these qualify, no actually, don't excuse me I don't care
These are the ones that get the most spins in my house.
1. Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
2. Anthrax - Sound of White Noise
3. Faith No More - Angel Dust
4. Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
5. Alice In Chains - Dirt
6. Soundgarden - Down on the Upside
7. Tool - Lateralus
8. Anthrax - We've Come For You All
9. Probot - Probot
10. Iron Maiden - Killers
And before anyone says anything, no, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Faith No More are NOT grunge bands!!!
These are getting forgotten much too often:

Faith No More aren't metal either. They may well have some metal songs, but they also have jazz, rock, easy-listening and all sorts of other songs. Other than Jizzlobber, Caffeine, Smaller and Smaller and Malpractice, Angel Dust is more rock than metal.
Eh, i love it, better tunes. Superunknown was too sludgy. If Soundgarden count, then Down On The Upside doesn't even compare to Superunknown.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise bands had to be over a particular percentage metal to qualify
Anyway, Angel Dust is plenty heavy enough to qualify as a metal album but it's pretty pointless trying to categorise anything MikePatton does. Although I find the distinction between a lot of hard rock and metal pretty pointless, finnicky and redundant personally.![]()

I once heard one of his bands (think it was Fantomas) branded as 'thrash jazz'... so yes![]()
Yeah I think that is actually the most prevalent opinion amongst fans. In saying that mind I had Superunknown for 3 years before I fully appreciated it, and I've only had DOTUS for about 3 months, so anything could happen there!
Oh hell yeah! I cannot figure out Mindcrime: 2, though.
