Tom Welling and glasses myth

Is there any proof that Tom Welling doesn't like to wear the Clark Kent glasses?

http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?p=16528930#post16528930

yea magic glasses is pretty much the only logical ruote they can go with since al/miles screwed up on not having clark wear glasses sooner.

It was Welling that decided against glasses. We could have glasses all the way back to season 3 but nope Welling said "No"

He couldn't wait to talk of the glasses last season in "Apocalypse"

Apparenty they bother him. Glasses aren't considered attractive and make him appear 'nerdy'

Supporting that ratings decreased in the third season episode Whisper when he put them on. Giving him the clout to renegotiate his contract so that he could approve what he wore - since he was and still is a model.

His renegotiated contract had a clause that he had final approval over what clothing Clark wears and that he wouldn't have to wear the suit. Evidence of this is supported in the third season where he was supposed to have the glasses permanently but Tom petitioned for a return to the status quo and that's another reason why he's not in as much flannel/plaid prints in later episodes.
My WORD, that's a lot of rumor for just one post. Why spread this stuff around if there's absolutely no proof to back any of it up other than what some anonymous person says on an internet message board?

Whoever this AgentPat is, it sounds like he/she is ready to bend over at Welling's command. Definitely the biggest Smallville homer I've seen.

Welling sounds like a woman.

Michael Rosenbaum hated shaving his head constantly while playing Lex but he did it anyway for seven years.

Does Daniel Radcliffe refuse to wear glasses as Potter because they might make him look nerdy? No because it's an important part of the character.

AgentPat - a similar name used to come on here and talk about me from the KryptonSite forums. Nice to see that AgentPat is still at it.

And Welling mentioned in on Carson Daly a few years ago.

the thing though is tha this is not superman. this is superman: 90210, where everyone, including the nerds, need to be hot! i mean of all the characters you could think of, you'd never think "hmmm doomsday needs to be attractive," but they had to do it. probably most of the people that watch are females which is why the show still works. not that i don't watch the show, albeit for diff reasons lol.

as a side note about glasses, from personal experience, they are not the most comfortable things to wear. i have a very light one, but i still don't wear it that much, not because of looks but because of comfort. i'd rather shave my head, which i sort of do, than wear glasses for hours lol. >_< just coming from someone who's had experience with both, for comfort reasons, i preferred head shaving than glasses.

The fact that Tom Welling looks fine in glasses...I don't get it. The \S/ curse is dumb...I don't get it.

What curse is he worried about? It's not like he has a movie career. Dean Cain may do a lot of cheap crap in between his legit movies (Out of Time), but he seems fine.

I've got a compromise, in that if he's unwilling to do the blue tights and big S on his chest for the finale-finale, they could have him shown from the side with the red cape flapping in the wind atop the Planet, obscuring our view of anything below his neck besides a glimpse of blue. Then they could do a CGI pull-back until a CGI him turns and swooshes off to the triumphant fan fare. I could live with that.

Clearly, if this is true, Tommy is a model FIRST and an actor second. And, well . . . I think we all kinda KNEW that already, didn't we?

He's possibility less worried about movie career than the possibility of permanent disability and/or death if he actually believes in the curse.

But, yeah, without actual corroboration I wouldn't put too much faith in the glasses thing. Though the no tights clause is fairly well established, though.

Wasn't it more specific than just ratings ? That they actually received letters from female fans saying "no more glasses" ?

There is a difference here. Rosenbaum - Professional Actor. Welling - Model/Actor.

From personal experience eyeglasses are no big thing. I have very poor eyesight, and with lightweight frames and lenses, they're almost like a second skin. Sometimes I forget that I'm wearing them.

Then again, I'm not from Krypton. Maybe eyeglasses contain trace amounts of Kryptonite.

I'm only supposed to wear my glasses for watching TV, using the computer and reading and I'm always forgetting to take them off.

Smallville is, was, and always will be a major revisionist version of Superman that simply has nothing to do with the suit (or the glasses for that matter, which are, in their way, a suit of their own). If costumes are that important to you be glad you got Green Arrow in a costume, 'cause you ain't never gettin' Clark Kent in one on this show.

I could live with that if the show hadn't already invested a lot of time in setting up audience expectation for the cape, tights, and glasses. They've dangled it like a carrot in front of us for years through a variety of hints.

^It's fair to say that this show has gone on a lot longer than anyone could possibly have expected.

If Walker, Texas Ranger and Baywatch can last as long as they have running on nothing, Smallville can too.
