TNG “The Neutral Zone” Cryosatellite model up for auction

So it appears that yet again, a model that we thought was adapted into another model (Relay Station 47), was in fact one of two separate models using the same mold. Previously it was thought that the Ambassador class USS Zhukov was made from the Enterprise-C, when in fact they were also two separate models. Apparently Greg Jein would use the same molds at least twice to make models that we initially thought were the same model with modifications.

I admit, one reason I like some of the offscreen tie in works such as Jackill's series and the Spaceflight Chronology are some of the lesser seen workhorses, as it were. I like the idea that Trek technology isn't always super advanced relative to modern counterparts. :)

Upon looking through the auction again, I noticed yet another Greg Jein model we previously thought was repainted and altered, but was in fact two different models: Cochrane’s Bonaventure he made for the Star Trek Chronology:

Here’s the other repainted model:

That repainted model should have been a cryoship for the remaster—that or two tethered SpaceX Starships.

The cryosat really does look best as a communications relay

Now, that's intriguing (link to more photos of the new model, here). The repainted model must've been the one used in DS9 and VOY since it has the mounting point for the stand and its nacelles were already missing when shown in DS9.

And if you compare the "new" model to photos in the ST:Chronology, there are subtle differences, the model's nacelles have extra piping on top and the dorsal connection on the cockpit module is different (that connection on the Chronology model does match the repainted version).

It appears that the model used in both the Chronology and the show was what became the repainted version... unless there were others. ;)
