The Asylum, the direct-to-dvd production company responsible for producing cheap knock-offs of the latest big budget Hollywood movies (termed “Knockbusters) has just finished production on Titanic 2.

what is Titanic 2 about? Here is the official plot synopsis:
On the 100th anniversary of the original voyage, a modern luxury liner christened “Titanic 2,” follows the path of its namesake. But when a tsunami hurls an ice berg into the new ship’s path, the passengers and crew must fight to avoid a similar fate.

Titanic 2 is one of those jokes that everyone has made at sometime over the past decade. It’s the one sequel no one expects will ever be made. There was even a great mock trailer produced four or five years ago.

Written/Directed by Shane Van Dyke, TITANIC 2 stars Bruce Davison, Brooke Burns, Shane Van Dyke, and Marie Westbrook and will be released on DVD on August 24, 2010.

have at it!

there should be a law against calling boats, spaceship, cars even prams, "Titanic", what person in there right mind would get on a boat called "Titanic"

The Titanic: Surface trailer, has more of an original plot than this.

Well if you mean it's not safe because of the name? What are the chances it would happen twice.

However i think you mean it's in bad taste to do so.

Asylum, I'll give you a pass on all of the crap movies you've made over the years. But now you're making a cheap, tounge-in-cheek, "sequel" to a real disaster in which 1500 people died! Fuck. You.

I guess Bruce Davison isn't above slumming it for a paycheck.

So what's next? An alien invasion in Hawaii that takes place at the new christened Pearl Harbor 2?

The Asylum claims to be in transition right now. They started off as the horror flick company, then started making mockbusters, and supposedly are moving on to something else (they seem to be taking a cue out of the American Pie in-name-only DVD titles and making more sex comedies), but I honestly can't see them ever leave the mockbusters behind because of how easy it is to rip off the big studio films. Hell, they've got a Sinbad movie coming out and the cover calls him "the original Prince of Persia."

^And yet it still sounds like a better movie than Cameron's version.

This ends any credibility you have on this matter.

Cameron's version was beautifuly made, powerful and tense. Yeah, the love story in the first-half can be a bit much but the "power" of the sinking is pure movie greatness.

"Why are you always so abrasive with people, Hermiod ?"

"Why do you always complain all the time Hermiod ?"

"Why are you so thin-skinned Hermiod ?"

This post is why.

The original Pearl Harbor still exists so they would have to call the film Return to Pearl Harbor or something.

Even in the context of a cheap knockoff direct-to-DVD movie, it strains credulity to the breaking point to think any new vessel would be named Titanic 2, or that anyone would book passage on a ship with that name. Why not Lusitania 2? Or Andrea Doria 2? Or Hindenburg 2?

So, where's the ice cube, uh, I mean iceberg?

you guys appear to have forgetten, Raise the Titanic

isnt that true of any episode of any TV show which either spoofs the movie, or refrences the Titanic in its plot. for example:

Doctor Who - Voayge of the Dammed
Futurama - A Flight to Remember

im sure there are others, these are the first two that spring to mind.
