Titan Launches a Ninth Doctor Comic Book

Titan Comics is expanding their Doctor Who comics line with a new ninth Doctor mini-series, costarring Rose and Captain Jack, written by Cavan Scott and celebrating the tenth anniversary of the relaunch of Who next year.

I can say that's honestly unexpected. I'm a little disappointed that Titan didn't do the brave thing and set the series pre-"Rose," but the relationship between the Doctor, Rose, and Jack (especially how they interact in "Boomtown") suggests that they had a number of adventures off-screen that we never saw.

I wonder when or if we'll get a War Doctor mini-series.

I honestly did not expect this. But I'm guessing they had the licence along with 10-11... but maybe wanted to commemorate the tenth anniversary? Either way, sounds awesome.

More Ninth Doctor is always good! Although I would have prefered a pre-Rose, or inter-Rose adventures, on the other hand I'd rather have Big Finish of whoever do audio adventures on them. Until then, this will suffice.

Bring on the Ninth!

EDIT: And a Warrior mini-series is guaranteed. Maybe they're going backwards?

Cavan Scott (and Mark Wright) captured the voices of this TARDIS team perfectly for Night of the Whisper in the Destiny of the Doctor audios; this will probably be the first Titan Who comics I actually buy.

Interesting their including Jack. I have no objections, of course, though that does place it in a bit of a limited time frame of when it could be set.

Oh well, more Ninth Doctor is fantastic!

At the very least, Titan already has a cover for one (done by the same artist who did the initial covers for Doctors 9, 10, 11, and 12).

(there's quite a lot of room at the top for a Doctor Who logo to be put there, IMO).

In a recent announcement about the Ninth mini, it was said their license covers all of the Doctors, so I agree with the earlier idea that a War Doctor mini is pretty much certain.

The fact Cavan Scott is the writer is a major plus. He's written some very good Doctor Who (and Blake's 7) audio plays for Big Finish, albeit with Mark Wright. I might actually check this out.

... this will probably be the first Titan Who comics I actually buy.

May I ask why?! Lack of interest in the current titles, or a more substantial opinion?

I've read the first two issues of Titan's "Tenth" and "Eleventh" series, and thus far I'm quite happy with them. Especially the "Eleventh" issues have a format I like very much, classic comic book "done-in-one"s with a subplot obviously building up to something.

I'm also looking forward to the "Twelfth" series, and am pretty excited about this news of the "Ninth" mini. I also think it'd be nice to have more minis starring First to Ninth.

I found IDW's work pretty uninspired, and I guess that's rubbing off on me here. I've only skimmed the previews, but they didn't override my IDW-inspired malaise.

Hm, ... I liked IDW's last regular title, propably mostly for the great writing of Andy Diggle. The crossover with TNG was a case of overthinking, imo, and that last one-shot suffered of being nothing more than about 50 pages of fan-service. I did't get into DW comics prior to the Andy Diggle run, I'm afraid.

Gary Russell and Tony Lee are both... not my favorites, to put it mildly, and they handled the bulk of IDW's early output. I am reading through the Humble Bundle I got, and I am looking forward to Diggle's taking over since I've liked his work for DC.
