The Varnathi dillema - and how would you resolve it

BohandiAnsoid

I have a dillema - a moral and political one - for you to consider. It is based on something I once wrote, but it can be taken outside of it and analysed as a separate thing.

The Varnathi were a civilziaiton of reptiles. They were united under a signle planetary goverment. Said goverment was extremely totalitarian - the government controlld every aspect of the citizens lives. Their marriages, how many children, and when, they could have (and, as they were reptiles, it was rather easy), where they lived, what they worked, what they were doing outside work and so on. And then, they were invaded by the Bohandi Empire, a brutal Empire that conquered and enslaved entire species. And they did so to the Varnethi. However, the Bohandi were actually better to the Varnathi people than their own goverment. The Bohandi abolished arranged marriages (because they are too asy to use to make breeding programs that could make Varnathi better suited to resist the Bohandi), any population control (since they wanted to have as many slaves as they could get, and Bohandi could feed them very easily by importing food from other planed or simply replicating it from energy) and allowed them to choose what to do outside of work, althiought of course still with some restrictions and under Bohandi control. They did ship them off world, chosse personal servsants of them and so on, but so did the government. The bophandi also cared about the morale of the people, althought they did supress any independace movements. They even took considerations to make sure all non - weapons property that could be moved would be taken, at thgeir own cost, along with any deported people.

It was that way for 50 years. And then, the war between the Bohandi an humans erupted. During the war, humans were sending missions to arm and train local resistanmce groups of the Bohandi slave species, the Varnathi included. The Varnathi rose up and succesfully drove the Bohandi from their planet. Soon after that, the humans destroye the Bohandi Empire completely. And, for a few months, they left the Varnathi on their own.

However, the Varnathi returned to their own ways. They now also had acces to the Bohandi technology and began expanding into space. Some Varnathi, along with another species who began suffer from Varnathi attempts to incroporate their colonies into their civilziaiton (the Ant - like Ansoids being the most important ones), contacted the humans and informaed them what happened. And here is the question - what should be done? Should the humans inmterfere? And if so, how? There is also the fact that the humans did contributee tothe restoration of the old ways. Was it even a good thing to liberate these people from the Bohandi, or was it just acceptable as a strategic move to weaken the Bohandi empire? What would you do?

Now, in the stories, it ended up with huamns invading the Varnathi and removinmgt the govermnent from power. But it was in no way the perfect solution and was also, at least [artially, politially - motivated, as the Ansoids were powerful and were threatehing tomake issues to the humans for their role in the rise of the Varnathi if the humans wouldn;t resolve it, and the Varnathi declined any diplomatic solution. bUT WHAT DO YOU THINK? pLEASE TELL me that below.
