the trargedy of Darth Plagueis the boring

So I was greatly anticipating the long-awaited "Darth Plagueis" novel. I'd really enjoyed the "Darth Bane" trilogy of books, and I figured that this would be on par.(I know it was different authors)

Well, as it turns out, it was less of a character study of Plagueis than of Palpatine, and the book is more of a prequel to TPM than a book about the Sith. More along the lines of Luceno's "cloak of deception" and "labyrinth of evil." The second half of the book is basically just a connect the dots of "Palpy meets with Dooku," "Palpy meets Nute Gunray," "Padme becomes queen," etc. It's like the author was going through a lost of TPM's plot points and writing the book backwards from there.

Further, Plagueis just isn't that interesting a character to focus on. In the "Darth Bane" books it wasn't the rather silly Sith philosophy stuff that made it work, it was that the story was interesting, that he was the guy who changed so much, and how he climbed his way up, etc.

Plagueis just isn't that interesting, except for the midichlorian manipulation stuff which is largely dropped from the book in the second half anyway. I just found that I struggled to stay interested in this story. Maybe it should have started earlier in Plagueis' life and not been so much of a prequel book.

I didn't even think that this guy was real.

Here I was thinking Palpatine was spinning shit to make that punk kid lick him out.

"Someone who isn't me has exactly what you need, and you really should look into it, even though it completely betrays your value system and I will gather no prophet from you taking this information to heart. No prophet whatsoever."

How come Molly fucking Ringwald is smarter than Darth Vader?

"Really? You think I'm too good to be true? Really? Are you sure that I'm not too true to be good instead?"

Hi, I'm Darth Diseaseus.
Hi, I'm Darth Lascivious.
Hi, I'm Darth Iniquitous.
Hi, I'm Darth Nefarious.
Hi, I'm Darth Corruptus.

:P I always thought sith lords (besides Vader) had stupid names

vade doesn't seem to be a word.

But I would imagine that it's the opposite of invade or/and evade.

the opposite of invasion is infestation and the opposite of evade is to stand still.

I think Anikan's name in less flowery prose might just be "Darth Stand-There-And-Take-It-Like-A-Little-Bitch".

Who knew Palpatine was so frakking funny?

I would think that Lord Plagueis would almost have to be a weaker character than Lord Sidious. What I gleaned from Sidious' tale in Episode III was that Plagueis was so focused in his manipulations of the Force that he let his guard down around his apprentice--which is a good way for a Sith Master to wind up dead.

Don't know about there being any word origins in a specific language, but Darth Vader = Dark Father.

Just like the movies.

Why the name "Plagueis" if he was into extending/creating life?

"The Wise", seemed like Palpatine's joke...since he seemed to think his late master a fool for even taking him as a student.

I read on the wiki that Plagueis was still alive during parts of Episode 1? So there were 3 Sith before Palps kills his master and then Maul sort-of-dies-but-doesn't.

That would've been an interesting scene to be in the film, though it would've told viewers that Palpatine was Sidious...so people who watch the films in numerical order wouldn't have that awesome reveal in Episode 3.
