The Official and Very Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I wonder if the Vanilla Ice movie was ever considered by the MST3K writers and producers and they just couldn't get the rights back when the show was on the air? The film was released in 1991 when Joel was still the host and the show still had almost eight years to go before it would be cancelled.

The studio might have said: "Vanilla Ice and a really bad movie or not, we're not granting permission and even if we did you probably couldn't afford our price." The studios are very protective of many of their movies even if they suck (and they know it).
Someone let Vanilla Ice make a movie???!!!??

^ Space Mutiny.
Featuring effects sequences purchased in bulk at the Battlestar Galactica fire sale.

I plan on watching San Francisco International sometime tonight or tomorrow. A good, solid, funny one over a made-for-TV movie/pilot in the 1970s. Lot's of funny moments and small-joke references in it.
Was it in The Skydivers where they made a joke referencing San Francisco International? "My nosewheel feels mushy."

Haven't watched Skydivers in a longwhile, but the "mushy thing" would be a reference to SFI.

Which I just discovered has an official release! Have to buy it!

Many names of David Ryder T-Shirt:

LINK
"Bulk VanderHuge" is still my favorite. :D

I like "Bob Johnson!"

;)

Actually I like, Punch Rockgroin, particularly when Crow says it as Ryder enters an area and begins punching a henchman. Second would probably be "Thick McRunfast" said by Mike when Ryder runs (sort of goofily and awkwardly) out of frame.

"You know, if there's one thing I've learned from this movie it's not to sit in our gas expulsion sump. We've got to stop having lunch in there." - Crow
"Yeah." - Mike

A great little line from Crow. I'm usually humored whenever they make jokes that acknowledge they're on a space-ship and this is one of those times. Imply the sump in the spaceship in the movie is a common feature in space ships to the point the SOL has one too.

Word to your riffer.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I did watch the riffed version, though. I wanted to make it a double feature with Mariah Carey's Glitter, but couldn't find the movie anywhere. I can't imagine why.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Just watched "The Incredible Melting Man" another fantastic one from the Mike CC era.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Thanks to almost 24 years of watching and loving MST3K I frequently find myself saying and writing "Think about it, won't you? Thank you." Also, the phrase "Thank you for making us laugh about love again" has found its way onto my Facebook wall more than once.

I love this show and the confusion it has indirectly caused some of my friends. :)

How many times have I said, "Push the button Frank?" to someone only to be met with a stare of confusion? So many times.

My MiSTie friends and I also use:
"Watch out for snakes!"
"Nummy-muffin-coco-butter!" (when we see a cute pet)
"I'm a danger to myself and others!" (sung, of course)
"We find him guilty-guilty! We find him guilty-guilty! G-U-I-L-T-Y, guilty!"(as a cheer, used when watching crime shows)
"Rowsdower!"

And that's only the tip of the iceberg. What are everyone else's favorite riffs that they're brought into their everyday lexicon?

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I don't use it in everyday life but lately I have found myself saying and laughing at Servo's riff in The Final Sacrifice when Pipper first appears.

"Yeah. Did you know him?"

Servo: "Know him? He was delicious!!"

Oh my god, that was so hilarious!

"What happened to him?"

Servo: "I jerked him!"

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I also use TV's Frank phrases from time to time.

"Watch me rock" is one of my favorites, plus it's not so closely associated with MST3K that you can get away with using it without most people thinking you're directly and deliberately referencing the show.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I watched one of my favourites last night; Time Chasers from S8. Has some great riffs, but also one of my favourite host segments, where Crow goes back in time to fix Mike's life, but they end up with Mike's surly older brother Eddie on the SoL as a consequence.

Crow: "What would MacGyver do?"
Eddie: "Get cancelled!"

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I have a production related question I hope someone can answer. During the KTMA broadcasts, the Satellite of Love station was a kind of 4 point radial design, looking a bit like something from a 1960s Japanese televised production like "UltraMan". But for the Comedy Channel (only later was the network rebranded as Comedy Central) debut, that model was chucked for the now iconic "doggy chew bone" toy inspired station composed of interlocked "truncated icosahedrons" ("soccer ball" patterned) geodesic spheres. The set design of the "bridge" reflected the miniature's shape. It even made sense where the partitioned corridor was positioned.

Who was the clever son of a gun who proposed that motif? Though Best Brains endearingly called thir series a "cow town puppet show", there was some beautiful logic to that design and with just some minor tweaks could have worked in a "serious" production.

Sincerely,

Bill

Time Chasers is one of my all-time favorite episodes, and since it was partly cut down for time, I'd love to see Rifftrax take on the whole movie, a retake of it wouls be awesome. It's also probably the best use of the host segments in the entire franchise, loved how the time paradox was used.

The guys' treatment of our lack-luster "hero" is merciless and hilarious. And some great gags too from picking up on various things on screen. Like when "Nick" (the "hero" of the movie) speaks out his plan from behind a door window on the airport building and finishes, Servo quips "Because in Time Chasers they don't take American Express!" (Noticing the accepted credit-card logos on the window and referencing old credit-card commercials.) Just and over-all funny, funny riff. It helps that the movie is, on some-level, watchable.

It's just a TV show, you should really just relax. ;)

Right now: Watching The Giant Spider Invasion.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Arguably the greatest musical moment in the entire 11-year run of the series, or a close second behind "The Greatest Frank of All."

Funny how the best songs are often the ones written about or sung by TV's Frank. :)
