The Musketeers has its new Big Bad

I wondered who was going to be the next bad guy. I take it he's from the books as well?

I can't find any indication of Louis XIII having a brother called Philippe Achille, Marquis de Feron, in either Dumas's work or real history. The closest thing I can find is that Louis's son Louis XIV had a younger brother named Philippe, who in real life was the Duke of Anjou and later the Duke of Orleans, and whom Dumas fictionalized as The Man in the Iron Mask and the identical twin of Louis XIV.

He's an original character, like Spanish Ambassador last season. The name "Feron" and brotherhood to the King obviously implies that they're cherrypicking elements from Dumas - in this case Iron Mask - and making them their own.

Well I've never thought of the show as historically accurate so that's ok...

Yeah, that ship sailed when they killed off Cardinal Richilieu so that Peter Capaldi could go be a Time Lord. If it hadn't already sailed well before that. Dumas took liberties with history, and the show takes many liberties with Dumas.

Actually, Philippe Achille De Bourbon, Marquis De Feron in the show was Louis XIII nephew and not is brother. He was the second son of his father's (Henri IV) bastard César de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme or simply César de Vendôme. It is Hollywood. They can do whatever they want, no need to stick to the book or history for that matter. Remember, Louis XIII celebrated his son's sixth birthday on the show, in reality he never lived to see his son turn four and by historical standards there should have now been a second son.

Ahh, no, it's the BBC. And it was shot in Prague.

Given that I pointed out that exact thing in the post immediately above yours -- and given that I wrote that post 16 1/2 months ago -- I think that, yeah, I kinda already knew that.

Hi. New poster to this thread.
I wasn't aware that there was a series 3 until I found it on the store shelf yesterday. I usually watch the series on BBC America and have enjoyed it. I was waiting this past spring to see if it would return but it didn't.
Looking forward to watching the next set of stories. My favorite character is Hugo Speer's Captain of the Guards; he seems to "ground" the rest of the characters and their adventures.
