The Mentalist: Season Finale - SPOILERS

Wow! Pretty intense episode!

I think it's pretty obvious now (or we're supposed to THINK it's obvious now) that the serial killer "Red John" is actually the woman played by Alicia Witt. The pattern on the teacups at her house matched the one left behind in the farmhouse where the young girl was being kept.

Also, though she was "blind", it looked like Witt's character slipped once and actually looked at Jane when he wasn't looking at her.

I'm assuming the name of the fake guy she made up, "Ray (something-or-other)" is probably an anagram or another puzzle to taunt Jane and the others.

Her motive? Well, if she actually IS blind, perhaps Jane in some way caused it back in his con man days. If she isn't blind, I still don't know her motivation.

What do you think? Is Red John actually a woman? And the one played by Alicia Witt tonight?

My thought was that at the end of the ep, we'd cut to the blind woman's house and there's be a NEW "Red John" signature painting on the wall, and she'd be all corpsified.

But... Damn. Now I have to go back and watch the ep again.

I can't believe that Jane would be able to be fooled by a fake blind person, though.

This was only the second episode that I've seen (the other was the pilot, which was on this weekend). And I enjoy the show.

My one big complaint about this episode is how easily they got to the blind woman. Sure Red John was setting Jane up, but shouldn't one of the cops have figured out that they were being played? They thought it was reasonable that Red John would hire a sky writer and give a legitimate address (I assume he's been shown to be intelligent throughout the show)?

And a tiny nit...In the letter that the blindwoman sent to Tagliaferro, didn't she say that she found the business card in her couch? I'm sure she talks to people, but a solitary woman finds a random piece of paper in her couch, and asks someone to read it to her? Possible, but it didn't seem too likely.

Anyways, small nits, but I don't like nits that make our supposedly smart characters look dumb.

I don't watch the show often, but it entertains me. It's too bad Logan and Keeler never got to meet. :p

I don't know if Alicia Witt will ultimately turn out to be Red John, though it would sure beat the usual TV storytelling where a character is introduced as a long-time friend at the start of the episode and is the (not so) surprise bad guy by the end.

Some people seem to think the CBI boss will turn out to be Red John, though I don't know why other than he's best known for playing a 24 villain.

I've worked in theater for over 30 years and know all the things that makeup does, but it still amazed me how plain Alicia Witt could look in this episode when she was so smoking hot in an earlier episode of Two and a Half Men. (Of course, she was wearing a lot less in that one, too ...)

I just saw the finale last night. I too thought that Red John might be a woman and that it might be Alicia Witt's character. Since they didn't bring down Red John or even reveal his/her identity, I wonder how long they plan to drag this out. I thought it would be a season-long arc, but it looks like it could last the whole series.
