I've tried to make myself watch the original 1976 story 3 times, but it just reads like a heroin addict looking for more heroin, but it's David Bowie, so I must have just been in a poor mood?

So what we have here with the first act is a photocopy of the Movie Starman. An alien takes human form but doesn't know the Language or how to walk or how to breathe, which is hilarious and utterly disgusting.

I was going to say I don't know Naomi Harris because I gave up on Bond, but apparently she was in the second Venom movie, but we can forgive her for that.

Very dramatic, really catches you.

Anyone watching?

The original film is on my rewatch list, I haven't seen it in decades. But it's a total downer. I'll eventually see this, I'm sure, and rewatch the original. Thanks for sharing!

I watched the original last year and although I’m a fan of Nic Roeg, I found it a struggle (my wife, who’s a far bigger Bowie fan than I am, bailed halfway through). But this cast has me intrigued, as has the fact that it’s a sequel, not a remake. Might give it a go.

I realized it was a sequel right at the end of the first episode, when Bill Nighy appeared. It looks like he's got the role David Bowie played in the movie. I hope the series is more upbeat than the movie was...

IMO the best scene in the original film was Bowie's character attempting to sing in church. It was so simple yet so effective - here was an alien trying to do something he had no cultural or tonal knowledge of. Faltering, off key but still struggling to match and mimic what the others were doing. It plays well with David Bowie's control and talent, you can perceive the inner struggle and frustration.

Just for the sake of curiosity I checked what people on Reddit have to say about it, and, wow, don't do my mistake! There were like three message about the actual episode, the rest was just Kurtzman bashing! I didn't know that so many people (well, at least the people who write on the web) had such a grudge against him!

I thought the opposite.

How can the boy who ran Discovery into the ground be behind this amazing show?

Really enjoyed last week.

Rob Delaney is so American.

I did not have Showtime as part of my cable package but wanted to see this and NuDexter. Figured I would wait until the end of this month, start a sub beginning in June.

Then, amazingly, I saw an ad for a limited time offer to get a year of SHO at $5 a month, so I called em up to get it added.

After seeing how long I had been a subscriber they offered an alternate deal... I was asked if I would like 2 years of SHO FREE! Well yeah!

But then a snag occurred. My old "legacy" equipment would not allow the lowly worker to input the deal he had promised, even with Supervisor assistance.
I got transferred to the Top Men Section of Cable. Not only did they push the deal through, they added everything, upgrading me up to the Ultimate Package! Free! For as long as I keep this subscription active! And they knocked $5 a month off my bill to boot!

Now all I have to do is find time to watch heavens knows what all is included.

Does anyone remember what technological innovations Newton brought to the humankind in the movie? I only remember the self-developing film and the musical spheres. Nothing else?

Rob is a pretty cool guy. I worked with in on several episodes of Catastrophe.

Other thoughts:

Holy Crap this is good.....Kurtzman wrote and has Directed the 3 episodes I've watched so far. Chiwetel Ejiofor is just incredible and Moneypenny does a great American accent too.....did not even recognize her to start with.

A 1987 adaptation of the book.

Unsold Pilot.

Not Will Wheaton, Robert PIcardo, Carmen Argenziano, Annie Potts nor Bruce McGill are the lead.

This show was very heavily review bombed before it even came out. Not sure why. Black lead really shouldn't trigger anyone in 2022.

Its not completely clear if the show has a black male lead, or a black female lead, and regardless they are both dirty foreigners taking away jobs from real Americans.

It is scheduled to be released on Showtime on April 24, 2022. The Man Who Fell to Earth was shot in England and Spain. Filming locations included Tabernas in Almería. Desierto de Tabernas, Spain.

Never mind.

So I say to myself wow! Great cast! Maybe I'll watch that. So I click around the movie to sample some of it. Maybe I won't! :ack:

Watched that movie 10 years ago, I remember enjoying it, but thought it was a wee bit unnecessary to show Rip Torn's willy.
I wonder what my current self would think of it?

Binging it now. Nice to see Moneypenny and Janeway in the same show. Plus Rob Delaney. Worked with him once on Catastrophe. Great guy.

Wow, this was excellent. I only hope D. Bowie had heard about it happening before his passing. I think he'd be so proud of its accomplishments.
