The Librarians returning for new spin-off.

Sounds like a spin-off, not a revival.

Yeah, but spinoffs usually contain at least one or two cast members from the original. I'd say that's the most common meaning of the term; spinning off the general universe instead of specific cast members is more common than it used to be, but I wouldn't say it's become the default definition of a spinoff.

I mean, The Librarians itself was basically a spinoff of the three The Librarian movies, but it still included Flynn on a recurring basis.

Sounds like a spin-off, not a revival. Dean Devlin has stated that he'd like to have some of the old regulars show up on occasion, although, of course, everything is on hold until after the Writer's Strike is resolved.

I find it a little funny that they're talking about fresh new voices, at the same time they're talking about working with Dean Devlin, who's been working since 1980, and reviving a franchise that's been around since 2004. I'm sorry, but that's not exactly fresh and new.
Having said that, I really enjoyed the show and the movies, and look forward to checking this out. I hope they get at least one or two of the original cast members to make an appearance.

I thought maybe co-showrunners Rachel Olschan-Wilson and Marc Roskin could be the new voices, but I looked them up, and it turns out they've been Devlin's producing partners since 2001, on shows like Leverage, The Outpost, and The Ark as well as the Librarian(s) franchise.

Maybe he meant the voices are new to The CW, although The Outpost aired there.

I liked The Librarians a lot in Season 1, but dropped off a bit after that (Flynn becoming a regular character really brought down the show in my opinion). I don't think I even watched Seasons 3 or 4 (and I have the first three seasons on DVD, bought cheap at Wal-Mart a few years ago). I still enjoy the premise though, and if Flynn isn't there I'd be up for checking it out.

I didn't think Flynn ever became a regular, I thought he always ended taking off for one reason or another after a few episodes.

Well, he appeared in 11 straight episodes from 3x6 to 4x6, so I guess you could say he was a regular for that span. But otherwise, he was only in the opening and closing episodes of each season and one in the middle. (Season 1: 1-2, 5, 10; season 2: 1-2, 5, 9-10; season 3: 1-2, 6-10; season 4, 1-6, 12.)

Oh, OK my mistake, I didn't realize he was in that many episodes in a row.

No, you weren't mistaken. Technically, he was never a series regular, since that stretch of 11 episodes was spread across two seasons. He was just a recurring guest star who stuck around for longer than usual that one time. (I think it was because his other series commitment had ended, so he had more time available.)

When I was writing the LIBRARIANS novels, I was told I could use Flynn if I wanted to but it wasn't mandatory. I gave him a large role in the first book, a smaller (but pivotal) role in the the second, and barely used him at all in third.

Well Flynn might not have been a "regular" in the legal terminology of TV casting, but of the 42 episodes he's in 23 of them (if the listed numbers above are correct), and that was regular enough to drive me away from the show eventually (looking at episode descriptions I made it to Season 3 because I remember the first few episodes, but I definitely didn't get to the end).

I guess its just that, for me, the Season 1 cast (minus Flynn) were great together, and when Flynn started showing up more regularly he just didn't fit as well with the rest of the cast for me, and I never liked him and Eve together.

I remember in his first few appearances there was something kind off about Noah Wylie's performance, but I thought he settled back into the role pretty well after a while.

I think I just didn't care much for Flynn as a character while liking the main cast a lot more. Taken on his own I'd probably be fine with Flynn (I never watched his solo Librarian TV movies), but when he was around on the show it always felt like he was taking time/focus away from the characters I liked more, and then eventually it felt like the show had become "his" show, so I dropped it.
