The Least Disliked Episode 2025 - DS9 Season 2

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favourite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

Playing God can go - a very dull Jadzia showing. There were far too many of those over the course of the show's run.

I love S2 and think the show was coming into it's own.

The Alternate introduces Mora Pol, but is still a bland episode.

Agreed. To be honest I'm largely relying on memory as I haven't watched through the entire show fully in a good 15 years or so - but looking at this list, it's hard to find episodes I flat-out dislike. I can't wait to reach DS9 in my big franchise-wide rewatch.

I. too, struggle to find episodes to dislike.

"Melora" had some good stuff about "disability" being about hostile environments rather than a lack of ability, and that "treatment" of disability is often a double-edged sword. Unfortunately, the episode is a bit bland and there's yet another romance without chemistry. How Dr Bashir managed to qualify without, apparently, ever attending a lecture in medical ethics remains a mystery.

I suppose Paradise is probably the weakest here. But damn if every season of DS9 isnt packed with gold.

It is my absolute pleasure to remove "Invasive Procedures" from that list. It's a 'Deep Space Nine abandoned and under siege' episode that comes immediately after The Siege! It's the series' one and only 'Jadzia without the Dax symbiont' episode, but it gives us nothing about who she was before joining and gives her nothing to do. Quark betrays the crew and almost gets Dax killed, no consequences. A dangerous plasma storm hits the station, nothing happens. It's a tedious, predictable episode and easily my least favourite of season 2. And considering how much I hate Sanctuary, that's saying something.

I think not all of the icomedy landed the way it was intended.

Removing "SANCTUARY".

While I liked that it started off with the universal translator having issues (something very rarely done), the Skreeans were just bratty and Haneek was particularly wrong to make Kira feel bad at the end. They were given an entire planet for themselves, but she had her tantrum to Kira that Bajor told them no. (For really good reasons.)

I can't stand brats in real life, and I certainly don't like them in fiction.

"Second Sight" is a bizarre episode that makes little sense. There's a society that "mates for life" that also seems to think that "romantic" expectations of relationships should be fulfilled and has no means of making adjustments to handle problems that will arise from the clash. There's an obnoxious and self-centred scientist who, nevertheless, is prepared to kill himself for someone else's sake. I don't really like romance in Star Trek and this really is nothing more than a casual attraction taken far too seriously by an adult who ought to know better.

Now I'm struggling to choose.

The game is getting tougher. Necessary Evil I think deserves the chop, for me it is probably the least memorable of the remaining.

Of the trilogy at the start, I find "The Circle" the least interesting. I suppose that the middle episode of three is always likely to have some problems, it's neither setting-up nor concluding, and the development here is rather bitty. (Given the number of times that I have watched the 1961 film of "West Side Story", I am ashamed of just how many years it took me to realise who Li Nalas was)

"Cardassians", which has a lot of great stuff in it, but has such a jarring ending. The episode fails to make it's case. It doesn't feel like it's in Rugal's best interest to return to Cardassia.

I feel The Maquis should have been better than it ended up. Here we had a chance to see the Federation outside the Starfleet bubble. It just ended up rather static - lots of talking and little action. I'm taking out "The Maquis I" as the cliffhanger was so dull.

Very tough to take out episodes.

I will remove "TRIBUNAL". Only because O'Brien suffered more times this season than any other. A third time is just... damn it, guys, give the man a break!
