the Halloween episode(s)

Catspaw obviously (airdate Oct 27 - ep was delayed to coincide with halloween) but what about Spectre of the Gun? (airdate Oct 25) it has a similar spooky eerie vibe (almost like a Twilight Zone) and has a ghostly title. surely it mustve been thought of as a Halloween ep at the time and possibly even selected to air for around then like Catspaw was?

S1's 'halloween' airdate ep was Miri so not really spooky enough to be considered a 'halloween' ep imo (had it been Man Trap or CharlieX then wed be in business)

(regarding TNGs 'halloween' eps - WNOHGB/Oct 26 and Phantasms/Oct 25)

Season 3 has "Booby Trap" - there's a real trick or treat... the treat is it's a great taut episode but the trick is that the crew is unintentionally tricked into quite a minefield and Geordi tricks himself into thinking a computer simulation is 100% real...

Season 4 had "Legacy" and the crew is tricked by Tasha's sister... a shame "Devil's Due" wasn't the episode of choice as it'd be perfect...

Season 5 does "The Game"... crew tricked again.

Season 6 did "True Q". Crusher gets to be dressed up as a big barkin' dog...

2 of the 4 could fit the bill directly. The other 2, unintentionally so.

But there does seem to be a theme, directly or malleable, that does fit these episodes.

I've yet to look up the other series, it'd be a hoot if they could all fit in the umbrella theme.

I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to that. Spock's Brain was chosen to open the season probably because it was a Spock episode. I would guess that they most likely picked the other episodes based on story strength and the stunt casting in And The Children Shall Lead. I believe Stan Robertson was quoted as saying "nobody wants to see our guys in Western garb" or something. It was more than likely a coincidence that it aired when it did. The third season was an interesting time and with much fewer memos, we don't have a lot of first hand knowledge as to what went on then. But I can't say it's impossible. I just don't think Freiberger and Justman (who was burned at not being given the Producer role) cared at that point.
