Disclaimer: As with all things entertainment value, YMMV...

Holy crap, this is fantastic! :luvlove: It's warped but, OMG, this is hysterical! And for the right reasons! :luvlove:

Hmmm, I know the old fairy tales of the 1800s tended to be a bit gruesome, and there is some appreciation in that. That could be a partial reason.

The humor - it's not to everyone's seasoning, but I've always adored this warped stuff.

This genuinely looks like fun. Great fun. I just watched it three times now and I still can't believe it.

Not since Capaldi's Xmas special (a great pseudohistorical as well, BTW) have I actually felt hyped for holiday specials, and prior to Capaldi's special, the only one that got my interest was "The Christmas Invasion". Again, YMMV and the ones not mentioned weren't all rubbish either, but that's way too tangential, even by my weirdo standards.

After the 60th is over, I hope Ncuti gets his own logo. Especially with the new show breaking from baggage and all that, plus - best of all, the season naming convention going back to "Season one"--

--uh, "Seasoning one"? :guffaw:

But, again, what say you? I was NOT expecting this to be good at all. And I sure as heck wasn't expecting the POV from another species like this. Apart from college writing classes, I never expected anything like that and maybe that's partly why. If the story holds up as well as this... :adore:

I will say, the vocals on that hold up a lot better than some of those on the SNW musical ep, but then they aren't hampered by having to be lip-sync'd to live-action actors, which was not done... very well on SNW except for La'an and Uhura, both of whom are played by actual singers.

All the actors in SNW's musical actually sang with the exception of Babs Olusanmokun, which is why M'Benga only takes part in the ensemble numbers and only very briefly.

Sang yes, but recorded prior then sync'd to the acting on set.
You realize it would sound like shit if it was recorded on set while acting in an environment that was not build for this sort of thing.
They were not on a musical stage.
And the choreography and arrangements especially of the ensemble numbers were not done in single takes for the most part. of course, you need to lipsync a pre recorded song to the acting.

Yes, I know WHY it was done, all I was saying is that the syncing was pretty obvious in some cases and the Goblins don't have that issue for fairly clear reasons.

Full disclosure, I LOVE the SNW songs and had "I'm Ready" stuck in my head this morning. It's just watching the songs on the screen was a bit jarring in places where the sync was obvious.

Babs reminded me of Alyson Hannigan in Once More with Feeling, I wonder if in hindsight he'll regret not throwing himself into it more the way she did?

And, predictably, Ian Levine was at first livid at the thought of a song in a Christmas special, but has softened his tune when he saw the clip.

How can one man be such a living embodiment of a hyperbole?

I think some of us old timers too easily defer to grumpy old man mode. We need constant reminders that entertainment is meant to entertain and that we should lighten up.
