The Flintstones is getting a remake... by Seth MacFarlane

Hey, Fred, Remember that Time You...

Get used to hearing Wilma and Barney say that a lot because Seth MacFarlane and his team of manatees have been hired to reboot the Flintstones:

  • The Flintstones will be produced jointly by 20th Century Fox Television and Warner Bros Television. Dan Palladino (Gilmore Girls) and Kara Vallow (Family Guy) will serve as executive producers with Seth MacFarlane who says the very first cartoon character he drew at age 2 was Fred Flintstone. “So it’s appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise. Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat stupid guy with a wife who’s too good for him.”

I'm sure that this will be nothing like his other shows: Family Guy, Secret Agent Family Guy and Black Family Guy.

Re: Hey, Fred, Remember that Time You...

What do we have to do to get Seth MacFarlane to stop making cartoons?

Re: Hey, Fred, Remember that Time You...

this is his first time adapting a previously existing franchise, so his previous track record may not be a true predictor of performance.

The Flintstones are heading back to television, courtesy of irreverent Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Fox television said on Monday.
MacFarlane will give a 21st century spin to the classic 1960s animated comedy series about the lives of Fred Flintstone, his wife Wilma, and their neighbours Barney and Betty Rubble.
"The very first cartoon character I drew at age two was Fred Flintstone," MacFarlane said in a statement.
"So it's appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise. Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat, stupid guy with a wife who's too good for him," he added.
The new animated series will feature MacFarlane's modern-day take on the lives of the Flintstones and the Rubbles, two hard-working middle-class families living with contemporary conveniences in the dinosaur-era town of Bedrock.
I can see this being veeeeeery popular news.

Oh goodness not another remake of a pop culture fave at the hands of some twit--this time Seth McFarlane.

Don't they get it you can only catch lightning in a bottle once.

Incredible - this guy has made a career out of being uncreative.

Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat, stupid guy with a wife who's too good for him," he added.

:(

Yep. He's going back to his roots. And in a way, so will The Flintstones as a series for both kids and adults, IMO...

I grew up with the Flintstones. (I happen to think that Barney Rubble is a helluva actor!) If Hack McFarlane desecrates one of my childhood icons, in even the slightest manner, I personally will enlist my friends, load them into my suv and drive to his house and drop a 55 gallon barrell of whoop-ass on his head. (I know I'm probably taking this too seriously, but dammit man! Seth Frickin' McFarlin???)
There had better not be a single fart-drug-gay-insest-sacriligious-leftwing political piece of crap attempt at humor ... or...soooo....heelllppp...meeeeeeee (fist raised toward Hollywood!)

A 21st Century spin on the Flinstones? Umm, I think he's missing the point. They're in the stone age for a reason. Otherwise, it becomes the Jetsons, or something like that. I have a feeling he'll also add a lot of cursing like his other TV shows. Either way, I hope it's not what I think it is when he says "21st century spin."

I dunno, though...if this means we can get a Betty Rubble who is NOT played by Rosie O'Donnell, I'd call that a bonus.
