The Delta Flyers now covering DS9

For those not familiar, The Delta Flyers is a podcast hosted by Garret Wang and Robbie McNeill. It started as a Voyager rewatch/recap, but they finished with VOY earlier in the year and have now started covering DS9 alongside Armin Shimerman and Terry Farrell.

To be honest I've only listened to some of the VOY episodes - they were good, but I really enjoyed the two DS9 episodes they've released a lot more. Having four of them hosting makes it more dynamic I think. Garret and Robbie are less familiar with DS9 but are able to compare it with their experience on VOY while Armin and Terry can obviously offer the actual behind-the-scenes info.

I reckon it's worth checking out the new episodes if you're a DS9 fan, even if you bounced off their VOY content :)

I think I listened to an episode of Delta Flyers a few years ago, but I couldn't get invested in it. However, Robert Duncan McNeill proved to be very insightful in general on his recent appearance on Shuttlepod Show. I can imagine he would be insightful critiquing something he is seeing for the first time.

In the first episode Terry Farrell talked about how DS9 had stage 17 among others and she was corrected and being told it was definitely stage 7 and I thought "No ... I'm pretty sure the promenade set was on stage 17". So I looked it up and yup, it was stage 17, stage 7 wasn't used for DS9 as far as I can tell, they had stages 4, 17 and 18. Justice for Terry!:klingon::rommie:

I enjoyed the first two episodes a lot, Delta Flyers was already a lot of fun covering Voyager but this time they have hosts who starred on the show and who have not a lot of knowledge about it at all which adds a different perspective.

Have I loved these first few pods. Terry is exactly the right energy to add to this show, a female perspective is exactly what they needed. She always has been great at speaking to the sexist double standard she was subjected to.

One of the most fascinating aspects of their Voyager rewatch was learning the extent to which that set was a boys club. Garrett shocked me a few times with the obliviousness of some of his remarks re: what actresses might be experiencing on the show (while Robbie seems much more aware). But during Voyager I often found myself wanting to interject... exactly the kind of comments Terry is now interjecting.

My other favorite thing of the Delta Flyers was how Robbie was basically transformed into a convention nerd by it. During season 1 Voyager, he can't stop giggling at the absurdity of it. By season 4, he was delivering passionate, extended rants about minor inconsistencies in the abilities of Seven's nanoprobes.

So it's very fun to hear him, freshly transformed into a Star Trek fan for the first time, excited to tackle a whole new Trek show he knows little about. He keeps trying to get spoilers from Terry, which she won't give.

Robbie already having a daughter when Voyager started and being close to Kate Mulgrew probably made the difference.
His and Kate's friendship was the most surprising fact I learned from the podcast, I had no idea. They still seem close, I remember one time when she called to the podcast he threw in an "See you Sunday" when they said goodbye so they're still privately hanging out.

The Delta Flyers also clarified in the comments for the most recent episode that Armin and Terry will both do 2 episodes per month but they aren't strictly alternating so that they don't have Terry missing a Dax centric episode or Armin a Quark one.
I hope they still have both on for big episodes.

They did mention that they'd have the full team on together occasionally. I can't find the exact wording on the Patreon now, but the phrasing made it sound like it'll be very occasional.

I'm already wondering who gets "Move Along Home." I definitely want to hear both of them talk to that one!

Thank-you for letting me know! I gave up on the delta flyers after a while. I don't like how they kept a lot of their content behind a pay-wall, which I think is a bit tacky given the two of them must be reasonably wealthy. I also felt they became rather repetitive in their comments and ran out of things to say after a while.

That being said, I've never really heard Terry Farrell talking about DS9 to any great extent (aside from why she left/was sacked etc), and it would be fascinating to hear Armin talking about Quark et al.

I shall re-subscribe.

I'm up to date with the new episodes. So far it seems Armin has much more to say than Terry, but there is plenty of time for things to change.

I'm currently making my way through the Voyager content. I'm in the middle of Season 3 so hopefully it won't take me long to get to DS9.

So far I'm getting more out of Armin eps than Terry. She's engaging honestly with the material, but also not necessarily picking up on obvious stuff, and also not knowing/remembering terribly much (Similar to Rosenbaum and Welling on the Smallville podcast). I'm not hating on her for it, just to be clear. Just my impression so far.

I'm enjoying McNeill and Wang's material so far. I'm curious to see what it's like when they hit a stinker ep. I hope they don't cushion their reactions too much in deference to their guest.
