It's time we wheeled this thing out once again: the fun and entertaining test to see where in the Inferno of Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy you will end up.

The last time it was run, it took place in this thread way back in the dim and distant 2009:
http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=104529
The original thread has been lost in the mists of time and deletion.
With a lot of new members and new frequent posters in this place since then, and of course seeing as it's now 2012, it's time to see where we'll all end up by Christmas this year. :guffaw:

Here is that online quiz: http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-test.mv
(note that recently the website has been playing up for me, although I've managed to get it working this week)

This is what I got:
You are one of the lucky ones! Because of your virtue and beliefs, you have escaped eternal punishment. You are sent to the First Level of Hell - Limbo!

First Level of Hell - Limbo
Charon ushers you across the river Acheron, and you find yourself upon the brink of grief's abysmal valley. You are in Limbo, a place of sorrow without torment. You encounter a seven-walled castle, and within those walls you find rolling fresh meadows illuminated by the light of reason, whereabout many shades dwell. These are the virtuous pagans, the great philosophers and authors, unbaptised children, and others unfit to enter the kingdom of heaven. You share company with Caesar, Homer, Virgil, Socrates, and Aristotle. There is no punishment here, and the atmosphere is peaceful, yet sad.

Once again, I remain stuck in Limbo. I must be doing something right - this is just what I got the last two times.
My profile has changed, however:

Purgatory (Repenting Believers) Low
Level 1 - Limbo (Virtuous Non-Believers) Extreme
Level 2 (Lustful) Low
Level 3 (Gluttonous) High
Level 4 (Prodigal and Avaricious) Low
Level 5 (Wrathful and Gloomy) Moderate
Level 6 - The City of Dis (Heretics) High
Level 7 (Violent) Low
Level 8 - The Malebolge (Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers) Low
Level 9 - Cocytus (Treacherous) Very Low

Compared to last time, I've got a more pronounced gloomy, wrathful and heretical edge to my sinning than before, on top of my virtuous and non-believing nature. Fascinating how things turn out.

Descriptions for each level are at http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-information.html

So... for a bit of fun, have a go, and see where in the Inferno of Dante you end up! If you've done this before, do it again and see if things have changed since last time. Are you a little bit nicer this time, or even more devilish?

The Sixth Level of Hell for me. :) I'm a heretic through and through, which doesn't come as a surprise.

However, Limbo was rated High for me, so I'm almost a "virtuous non-believer", if I could only stop being quite so heretical.

So, off to the City of Dis I trot.

"You approach Satan's wretched city where you behold a wide plain surrounded by iron walls"

Nice place, Lu. Can I call you Lu?

Before you are fields full of distress and torment terrible.

I tremble torturously at the torment terrible. Are you sure the "torment" isn't that being suffered by the verse?

Burning tombs are littered about the landscape. Inside these flaming sepulchers suffer the heretics, failing to believe in God and the afterlife, who make themselves audible by doleful sighs.

Cremation. Sort of. They sound quite put-upon, all this sighing. Well, they've already been through this once, now they have to do it again, eternally.

You will join the wicked that lie here, and will be offered no respite.

But I look cool; I mean, I'm on fire and I'm just sighing in a put-upon way, like I'm saying "yeah, I'm totally ablaze, and this is cool with me. Yawn. It's annoying when this total badassery afflicts me. What's for lunch?"

The three infernal Furies stained with blood, with limbs of women and hair of serpents, dwell in this circle of Hell.

Meeting the neighbours, eh?

Purgatory
You have escaped damnation and made it to Purgatory, a place where the dew of repentance washes off the stain of sin and girds the spirit with humility. Through contrition, confession, and satisfaction by works of righteousness, you must make your way up the mountain. As the sins are cleansed from your soul, you will be illuminated by the Sun of Divine Grace, and you will join other souls, smiling and happy, upon the summit of this mountain. Before long you will know the joys of Paradise as you ascend to the ethereal realm of Heaven.

Well, isn't someone all good and virtuous. :p;) Fine, go to Paradise. I'll just sit here and smoulder.

Limbo, very high.
Purgatory, high.

Interesting, considering that in actuality I'm more believer than not.

Haha, I was surprised I still got Purgatory to be honest. I've taken this quiz before, and quite of few of those "moderates" used to be "low" or "very Low"...

Purgatory - Repending Believers - Very Low

yeah... saw that coming...

by the way, i'm not a 'violent' person, but a lot of the questions were asking things that i've done as a sexual nature, bdsm for example... where i've caused and recieved pain but it wasn't violent...

badly written test...

I'm assuming, in order to represent the test accurately, that they're using a classically theological concept of "violence", which might not correspond exactly to what we today expect by the term "violence", or to literal violence at all. :) My violence score was surprisingly high - for a timid pacifist who's never thrown a punch - and I assume partly because of my responses to questions about prior self-harm and suicidal thoughts. In the spiritual sense, violence doesn't have to mean you go around attacking people. :) The Christians were often more subtle than that...

Level 2 for me.

The Dante's Inferno Test has banished you to the Second Level of Hell!
Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
Level | Score
Purgatory | Very Low
Level 1 - Limbo | Low
Level 2 | High
Level 3 | High
Level 4 | Very Low
Level 5 | High
Level 6 - The City of Dis | High
Level 7 | Low
Level 8 - The Malebolge | High
Level 9 - Cocytus | Low

I got the 7nth level, "violent", High.

The other High ones were level 8, "the Malebolge" (what does this make me think of hmm..) "fraudulent, malicious, panderers".

And also the 3rd level, Gluttonous.

I think it's more like I should be on a level called "truthful". Still this is probably going to bother me a bit.

Second Level of Hell

You have come to a place mute of all light, where the wind bellows as the sea does in a tempest. This is the realm where the lustful spend eternity. Here, sinners are blown around endlessly by the unforgiving winds of unquenchable desire as punishment for their transgressions. The infernal hurricane that never rests hurtles the spirits onward in its rapine, whirling them round, and smiting, it molests them. You have betrayed reason at the behest of your appetite for pleasure, and so here you are doomed to remain. Cleopatra and Helen of Troy are two that share in your fate.

Dammit to Hell! Only level 5. WTF am I doing wrong?

Oh well, at least I can go fishing in the river

So, I guess this means I'll have to spend some time on the third and seventh terraces of Purgatory, huh? :p

So, that's two of our number who have a shot at reaching Paradise. Who else among this hive of sinners has a hope?

Not too surprised, really. I see some good company.
