The Cytherians and Sha Ka Ree

Good afternoon.

This may be a tenuous connection at best, but...is it possible that the impostor deity in Star Trek V could have been a member of the Cytherian race? Perhaps he/it was a misfit that delighted in posing as various gods?

It would explain how Sybok knew how to get to the centre of the galaxy... though not how the Klingons got there, or how they got back.

It has been suggested that Joe Menosky, the writer of The Nth Degree, speculated that the Sha Ka Ree entity (or whatever you want to call it) was a renegade Cytherian. But nobody seems to be able to provide a source for that.

There are certain parallels, such as being located near the center of the galaxy, and bringing people to them to make contact instead of vice versa. But if he is Cytherian, where is "God's" funky forehead including weird jewel thing? :vulcan: Also, it's not "cannnnnnnnnnnnon," but @Greg Cox's Q novels give an interesting background on the STV:TFF entity.

There does seem to be a connection, certainly. I see it as the Q imprisoning "God" behind the great barrier (that is to say in the pocket dimension accessed by the barrier surrounding the black hole at the center of the galaxy) - per the Q Continuum books - then entropic energy from the barrier creating a predictable wormhole network leading to the center of the galaxy and empowering the enhabitants of Megas Tu (giving a possible connection between "God" and "Lucifer"), and somehow influencing the Cytherians development on the other side of the galactic center.

It would explain how Sybok knew how to get to the centre of the galaxy... though not how the Klingons got there, or how they got back.

"God" opened a wormhole, the Klingons followed cloaked, both ships booked it back after shooting "God" before it faded?

Sure. Though I think it would be funnier if it just happened that most lifeforms in the central area of the galaxy simply took the form of Giant Floating Heads.

Hey, if the rest of the galaxy can e all bipedal humanoids with different foreheads, why not?

In the 'Q' novel(s), that being - along with three others who were 'god-like' in the ToS - are all Q-like entities from an alternate reality. The First one 'Q' meets he names 'O' (so, a 'Q' without the little 'tail'). The others are that angel-dude that tricked those kids into being little douches, that being that thrived on strife and messed with Kirk and some Romulans, and one other I forget at the moment. All of them come from the same place, and in my head-canon, I think they are really the 'Q' from the Mirrorverse. That last part is pure speculation, but the first bit is beta-canon.

The Continuum traps them all in different ways, except for that anger-entity which fled, IIRC. They had to write it that way since it all takes place in the distant past.

The Guardian of Forever is also in the story, which is how 'Q' meets 'O'. Its cool because it has call-backs to so many different ToS references.

As for the premise of the thread, YES, he could be, but I doubt it.

The Cytherians use technology. It does seem pretty advanced compared to Federation, but its still tech. Beings like 'Q', the Caretaker, Metrons, and a dozen others I can think of snap their fingers and whisk ships to the other side of the galaxy - the Cytherians did not do that. Since that would have been more expedient than the ridiculous method they did use, it stands to reason they CAN'T do the finger-snap thing. On the other hand, the being trapped in the galactic center was nigh-omnipotent and didn't seem to need any tech at all (of course, we don't know that for sure, but it would be awful weird if he was imprisoned WITH all his stuff). There's also some mind-manipulation going on with both, but its not the same - the trapped entity is much more subliminal. The 'project a giant head to impress the kiddies' trope is just some old-school, Wizard of Oz BS.

And lastly, although lots of folks like the idea of locking-away bad people, no-one wants a prison in their backyard.

And that would have been great, had it been mentioned in the film. Instead, it implies that both the Enterprise and the BoP made it to the center of the galaxy under their own power and with no assistance from wormholes, engine modifications, etc.

Distance meant next to nothing in the TOS era. I think we've figured at least that much out. In "That which Survives", the Enterprise is thrown about a thousand lightyears away, and seems to make it back to the planet in an hour or so (at Warp 8!). Janeway sure as heck could have used that level of tech. They could have made it home in three days at safe cruising speed.

That's the explanation I've been going with for years, so yes, I agree.

Like the Horseless Headsman :)

Now maybe the center of the Milky Way is a bit like Concordant Opposition. Sigil is your amped up Cytherians as the best bio/android combination..anti-Borg. I actually do like the links here….but it being the god-thing that Q imprisoned.
