The Absence of Mr. Sulu...

Spock's Barber

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
During the 2nd season, Mr. Sulu left his post on the bridge for several episodes because George Takei was away filming John Wayne's movie, 'The Green Berets'. The show never mentioned or explained why Sulu was missing. Now is your chance to give the 'real' reason that Sulu was gone.

I think he had space hemorrhoids from sitting in his Helmsman's chair for too long.

"Cataloging gaseous anomalies... in... Beta Quadrant."

His job at the beginning of the sixth film is even more trite than we realized; he's already been there, he's already done that.

The ship was exploring a strange new world (like in the opening monolog), and when everyone was beaming up, Sulu was behind a bush peeing.

It was months before anyone figured out why he wasn't showing up for his shift.

He planned to kick Kirk out of his command chair prematurely..... :p

So, Mr. Sulu could have spoken Chekov's famous line to Kirk from 'Mirror, Mirror'......."If you die, we all move up one step in rank.":guffaw:

I doubt that since both Sulu and Chekov were in "Mirror, Mirror".

The episode writer could have given Sulu the hit job on Kirk. With that wicked scar on his cheek and that insidious smile Sulu would have been more sinister than Chekov.

He got a bit carried away after getting "the happy shot" in "Wolf In The Fold" and was sent to HSA (Happy Shot Anonymous) for treatment.

Paternity leave.

"When did Sulu find the time?"
"When he was shooting The Green Berets in Season 2, remember?"
