Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien developing new live-action Trek series

Precious Tritium

The new series is intended to be an action comedy that, according to Paramount, centers on Federation outsiders who are serving on a gleaming resort planet. Not only that, their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.
Sources have said the show may have workplace comedy tones of The Office or Parks and Recreation.

Simien, Newsome and Trek franchise czar Alex Kurtzman will write and executive produce the series. Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth are also exec producing. CBS Studios is producing the show.

The show, if it goes to series, would join a line-up of live-action and animated series that includes Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks and the upcoming Starfleet Academy.

I like variety. We have a ship show. An Academy show. An animated comedy. An animated kids show.
The animated comedy will be done. The animated kids show (which is much more than that) is 80-90% likely done. That leaves: A live-action ship show (which by streaming standards will be past middle-age). A live-action academy show. A live-action comedy show. Section 31 (whatever that might be). Even with associated lower ratings, animation is cheaper, and they should be doing more of that, not less.

Oh damn, they actually did it! They came up with a premise that interests me less than Starfleet Academy and Section 31!

Might be good, I'll probably end up checking it out anyway, but right now I'm having fun telling my friends about it and watching their hearts sink.
