Succession Season 3 (Premiering Oct 17)

Couldn't find a previous thread for Succession so thought I'd create one in case anyone wasn't aware of the premire date.

Who else is looking forward to this? Other than Better Call Saul it's probably my favorite ongoing television show at the moment. Seeing the fallout of Kendall's resurrection of spirit and how they navigate this while the leveraged buyout is about to fall on their heads.

And in the end of season 2 it seemed Connor's entire presidency run was a joke but I could totally see making him into some populist right wing hero in the vein of Trump.

I love Succession, and can't wait for the new season to start.

Everyone on this show is so awful.

Conner is useless, with his paid for girlfriend and thinking he's a real candidate for President.

Shiv and Tom deserve each other. They both suck as human beings. Greg is just so fucking annoying. I will admit, I kind of like whatever perverted relationship Gerri and Roman are into.

The war between Kendall and Logan should be pretty epic.

:techman:

Tom and Greg’s relationship might be my favorite part of the show. Like when he teaches him “How to be rich”.

I like the fact they are all atrocious human beings. When you’re not emotionally invested in the outcome you can just enjoy the drama. It’s like nonviolent Game of Thrones.

That's a fair point.

The writing on this show is really good. Some of the dialogue is amazing.

I’m also curious if we will find out more about Rose.

Logan is ostensibly a sociopath. Even his offer to Shiv to make her his successor was just a manipulation tactic to get his kids plotting against each other. But something happened in the past to his sister which Logan seems to genuinely feel bad about.

In a way he reminds me of There Will Be Blood. He only respects ruthlessness, only values his kids insofar as he can see himself in them.

Whereas Kendall is not a genuine sociopath and that is why no matter how well he knows the business he’ll never satisfy his father.

I thought that was a pretty strong premiere. The scene where Logan was determining the figurehead CEO and everyone in the room who was pushing someone knew Logan would do the opposite so just recommended everyone except the person they want.

Then Kendall doing his classic trying to be badass but coming off as a blowhard.

Roman didn't want the job, hence his "I want it, but it's better if the mother hen rang things while I....learned or something"

Shiv would have got the job if she had landed that lawyer (Lisa?).

If there's one thing Logan hates, it's failure and incompetence.

I’m starting to think Kendall is the least trustworthy character out of all of them because he actually believes his self serving bull.

He’s the cognitive dissonance master. He came up with a story to tell himself that everything he was doing was a valiant effort to take their Fox News clone on the straight and narrow and use it as a force for good, and successfully convinced himself that’s what he was doing.

I like the bit where it seemed Yuen was actually trying to stick up for his grandson, then nope, he’s using him to as a wedge to pursue socialist legal reforms.

I think the sides haven't solidified yet. Don't know who is gonna be the one to betray. Probably not Con because it won't matter too much if he switches. Shiv would shake the boat. Roman's got his cushy thing with Gerri, doesn't need the risk.

If the succession happens, the show can't continue. But they also can't keep going around the same block over and over again. It's good they're keeping the viewers guessing.

I don’t think that having a successful coup would end the show. As long as the winner is a family member. Logan would still be out there agitating, taunting any failure.

Shiv is going to go with the side that makes the biggest promises to her and I don’t think Kendall is prepared to promise her much.

That was a good episode. First the escalation between Kendall and Shiv, Kendall with the Nirvana prank and Shiv with the open letter. Kendall delighting off all the late night comedy aimed at him until that point. Then Logan overplays his hand and draws a straight out FBI raid. I’m not sure here how Logan escapes going down in flames.

I recognized the song from the first few chords. Then the part about “These are the questions I think people really want answered.”

They're tearing each other apart.

I think Shiv's angle would be to let Logan and Gerri take the fall and she can be the clean one to take the reins.

Logan might go scorched earth and feed Ken to the wolves with that "accident" that killed that waiter.

Roman and Con are just sticking around seeing which way the wind's gonna blow and staying out of the shitstorm.

Wambsgans' loyalty play was interesting.

Kinda hard to see any kind of make up family reunion happening at the end of this season.

I was thinking about whether Logan has a play with what he knows Kendall did. He can’t very well come out and show how he knows without admitting he covered it up or having credibility issues with the timing.

He’s have to use his media empire to present evidence that seems like it came from a different source.

I think we’re seeing signs deep down Logan would still rather lose to Kendall than an outsider. But they screwed themselves not being able to cover up their feud well enough.

I think it was more Logan saying he's going to be the one in charge and at the same time not being in great health. Without that physical collapse it was still in the balance especially with Logan's "Kendall could be the one, he's probably the best to take over." and Kendall starting to become conflicted all over again.

I'm not sure what to make of how that played out, Logan showing signs of cognitive symptoms again even if you attribute them to his UTI. Then the way Shiv tried her coup to get herself a board seat and Logan still shows her no respect.

I also don't know what to make of Kendall's weird power move in the shareholder meeting. What exactly he was trying to accomplish, maybe he thought he'd create the appearance of still being a leader in the company?

Logan forgot to take his meds. That assistant was supposed to make him take it, but she just gave him the bottle and told him to take it and he forgot.

About Shiv, I think Logan does not like his kids making decisions for him, at least while he's still in charge. So anyone who tries to, he shuts them down. Consistent with his character. Also, won't yield an inch to anyone unless he were getting a mile in return, so he was disappointed with the "deal" that was made while he was out of it.

I think Kendall simply wanted to make sure people knew he was still in the ring. The Sandy-Stewey and Logan settlement announcement did not mention him and if there's one thing Kendall hates, it is becoming an irrelevant side-show.

I’m not sure Logan ever seriously considered Shiv as his successor. The only way she ever had a chance was if she came on and started being just as brilliantly ruthless as him. Otherwise he just wanted a softer face for public relations and an inroad with her political connections.

Maybe Ken was just trying to go viral.
