Star Wars Darth Bane trilogy books

Anyone else really love these books?

I finished reading them a few days ago and I have to say it was better than much of the PT. Bane is awesome Sith Lord that you end up rooting for. The first book did a great job showing how his life changed after discovering the Force. There are plenty of lightsaber fights and some interesting background on the Sith. Highly recommended.

I'm reading book 3 right now. An awesome series. It really should have been Episode I, with Palpatine teaching Darth Maul the history of the Sith. Episode II opens with Obi Wan finding Anakin, they both face, and defeat Darth Maul. In Episode III, Palpatine realizes the Darkside potential in Anakin, and turns him against his friend, and teacher.

I definitely agree that we should have gotten more background on the Sith in the PT. Besides Palpatine telling a Sith tale in ROTS, we barely get anything about their history in the films. You have to read the books or comics to learn more about them, which is a shame.

I thought that book 1 was bearable, and book 2 deathly dull. I didn't bother with the third one.

Darth Bane was way cooler in Jedi vs. Sith.

By that point, I was too bored. If I never get into the characters, why would I get into their fight?

I enjoyed all three, but Book 1 was the really epic important one. The other two were just prolonged epilogues, albeit enjoyable ones.

I havent had a chance to read the third one yet, its currently sitting on my desk. ive read the previous two and enjoyed reading them.

Heres hoping the third is just as good to read as the first two.

Path of Destruction was a good read, but I hated how it pissed all over Jedi Vs. Sith, my favorite SW story ever, especially since Karpyshyn's reasons for the changes were completely nonsensical. He argues that the changes he made were just little details (I disagree, but that's beside the point) that didn't affect the story, but if they didn't affect the story at all, then the changes were just change for change's sake, without any reason behind them. Karpyshyn can tell a good story, but his attitude toward continuity is inherently destructive.

Rule of Two was a completely hollow story. It had nothing to say, and only existed to tell how Bane got rid of the orbalisks so he could start looking cool again. I also hated how so many cool characters just died like punks.

Dynasty of Evil was somewhere in the middle. I enjoyed seeing the manuevering and confrontations between the two Sith Lords, but like RoT, a lot of it felt like it was just going through the motions, connecting the dots that stories later in the timeline tell us must be connected. PoD was a good story in its own right, in addition to showing us how some things come to be, but RoT and DoE are textbook examples in how not to do a prequel.

It's a lot easier to just draw a sailing ship in space & a Jedi horse than it is to describe them on page...

It's not even that so much (though it was obnoxious. If you can't deal with the elements that you have to work with then you should be telling a different story); it's the complete reshuffling of events from the comic.

For the record, here's the proper way of reading Path of Destruction based on the Jedi Vs. Sith timeline. Though even with this order there are still glaring contradictions.

page 1-247
251-265
269-294
296-300
248-251
266-269
285
295-296
300-317
319-324
317-319

And that, my friends, is absolutely ridiculous.

Loved this trilogy. To some extent I had the misfortune of reading it concurrently with the Legacy of the Force series. The Bane trilogy created three compelling Sith Lords, actually more if you consider some of the Brotherhood of Darkness, in just three books what three writers and nine books failed to do with Caedus.

But back to Bane. I thought the first book was a little slow but once it got rolling it was very good. I liked that Bane wasn't a 2-D villain. He had fears and doubts, he suffered a lack of confidence, and he had to work to become a Sith Lord. I thought that was well done. I also enjoyed this book's take on the New Sith Wars and the battle of Rusaan depicted in the Jedi v. Sith graphic novel. Because of Path of Destruction. I didn't judge JvS too hard after I read it. The artwork was too cartoony and it might not totally synch up with POD but when that happens I just accept POD's version of events.

Rule of Two was actually the first book I read in the trilogy. It was very fast paced and my favorite of the series. I really liked the relationship between Bane and Zannah, and I liked how Bane fleshed out his philosophy.

Dynasty of Evil was a bit bittersweet because I knew that relationship would have to end. Perhaps DoE could've had more Jedi in it and beefed up Serra a bit more, but it flowed pretty well. Really liked Set Harth and wouldn't mind seeing him again. Though I think there was a bit of a cheat at the end which took away some of my enjoyment.

I've never read Jedi vs Sith comics so I can't comment on that. The first time I heard of Bane was actually from TPM novelization. I've read that Terry Brooks spent a long time talking on the phone to Lucas about the history of the Sith and the whole 1000 years in hiding thing, while he was writing the novelization. Makes me wonder how much of Bane's history Lucas had already thought up. Are the Jedi Vs Sith comics told from the perspective of Rain and Darth Bane?

I agree with those that have commented that Rule of Two is the weakest book in the series. There doesn't seem to be much story, since the first half follows immediately after the first book. I wanted to see more of Zannah's training as a Sith. There is also the fact that the first book is focused on Bane, who I find to be more interesting as a character than Zannah. However, I've read in interviews that the author had to rush the second book in order to meet a deadline. The success of the first book was a little unexpected.

I enjoyed the Bane books as much as the Thrawn trilogy. It was really neat reading a book from the perspective of bad guys. I'm glad I read them.

From what anyone can gleam from what's been said, Lucas' entire history of the Sith is this:

-2000 years ago, a Jedi Master leaves the order to form the Sith Empire.
-The Sith conquer much of the galaxy and the Jedi fight them.
-1000 years ago, the Sith destroy each other. Darth Bane, the last Sith Lord, goes into hiding. He forms the Rule of Two.
-Darth Plagueis stuff happens.

Are the Jedi Vs Sith comics told from the perspective of Rain and Darth Bane?
Not really. Darovit is probably the mainest character. Bane, Rain, Hardin, Kaan, Hoth, and others are also pretty major.
