Star Wars copied Prodigy?

Kids going on adventures in adult vehicles is a pretty broad and well used device.

While I will admit I immediately thought of Prodigy when I first heard Skeleton Crew's premise, I will agree at this stage we should wait until Skeleton Crew actually airs before we accuse it of ripping off Prodigy. Besides, it's not as though this concept had never been done before prior to Prodigy.

It's just that the timing seems suspicious - never mind that two people probably have had the same good idea for a while independent of each other) - and it looks to people who don't know this that SW saw what worked in the other franchise (us) and how it even garnered enough support to spur a "bring it back" campaign after cancellation by its original streamer - they're looking for a win.

Skeleton Crew has been at least two years I think in production. It was announced in 2022, so any timing issues is pure coincidence.

Yeah, honestly, I doubt Prodigy was even on their radar when they were breaking this story, and I also highly doubt it made enough of a pop culture impact to be on their radar after it came out. The idea of a group of youths discovering a strange vessel and being whisked away is a classic adventure trope--that's why Prodigy used it.

The estate of Robert Heinlein could probably sue both of them ;)

Kids lifting off with a ship they find buried is Prodigy. I will happily accuse it of ripping off until it has aired and made its own mark.

I doubt Disney is stealing from a show that couldn't draw enough people to stay on a fledgling mid-tier streamer.

Somehow I doubt Disney copied an unpopular show that was cancelled after one season...

The premise isn't particularly unique. I used to watch an old kids show on Nickelodeon called "Space Cases" that was basically the same thing back in the 90's.

That's going in the opposite direction than what this thread is on about.

True, but I think it's somewhat relevant in the sense that there's a bit more similarity between the two nowadays in both directions than there once was.
