Star Trek Pinstripe for Cars

I was looking at the pinstriping on my car, and it reminded me a lot of the pennants on Starfleet ships that ended in the Trek arrowhead/delta symbol at the front, and I was wondering, if anyone knows of a place here I can purchase a subtle pinstripe that starts off as the Star Trek symbol, and then runs like regular pinstripe to the end of the vehicle. Nothing ostentatious, just nice and subtle.

There's a guy who posts on here who's done his Toyota Prius up as a Starfleet shuttlecraft. Pretty cool. Not exactly "subtle", but very cool, and I'll bet he'd be a good source of information. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me remember his username. I'll see if I can track it down and post if/when I do.

I doubt very much you'll find what you seek "off-the-shelf". However, it would not be difficult to purchase the colored pinstriping you need at AutoZone, VIP, etc. A little planning and an exacto knife and I bet you can achieve the results you seek.

Just have the red striping done at any auto detailing place that does it. Tell them to leave some space at the front. Then just get some colored electrical tape (check the hardware section at WalMart) and cut out shapes to create the chevron of your choice.

Good idea. Here's his thread about his car: Prius Class shuttlecraft

What would be the point of hiring someone to paint the stripe, but not also paint the chevron as well? I mean if you have the cash to hire a professional in the first place, why pay him to do only part of the job?

Because whoever did it might not want to? Because they might charge too much for a custom piece of artwork as opposed to the stripes which are standard procedure with a set price?

If ya want a red stripe that looks remotely like the red trim on any Trek starship or shuttle, we're not talking about a vanilla pinstripe job anyway. It's already going to be a custom piece of art. A plain yellow delta added to the job likely won't drive the cost up appreciably.

Yeah, but anything that big and obvious would just scream "geek". I was thinking of something more subtle that wouldn't be noticed from across the parking lot.

Try this then:

Only imagine that what you see here on the page is somewhere around 1/2 the "Actual Size" you'd actually have it painted on your car, with the trailing edge running the whole length of the vehicle.

Maybe trim the delta in a contrasting color so it stands out better (depending, of course, on the color of the vehicle); ship name optional.

I am planning on rebuilding/upgrading/repainting my pick-up soon. I was planning to paint it white(well have it painted, I can do all the Sanding and stuff, but I cant paint worth crap) So if you do this, tell us how it works out, and what you did, Id be interested to see the final result....

it's not hard, the trick is to use the roller to paint a big zigzag and then fill in. :bolian:

Hey- Most printing shops can transfer your images onto vinyl with an adhesive backing. They're all over the place (we even have one in the shitty little town I live in). Then it's just a simple matter of applying it to your car. It's really easy and not expensive.
