As a lot of us here are excited for the new series staring Jan 23, I thought I'd create a thread reminding people you can start the story earlier with prequel comics and a novel, starting November.

Curiously, however, the comics have no artist or covers revealed just yet:

Plus, on February 11 a novel, The Last Best Hope by Una McCormack, is published:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Picard-Last-Best/dp/1982139447

A thrilling novel leading into the new CBS series, Una McCormack’s The Last Best Hope introduces you to brand new characters featured in the life of beloved Star Trek captain Jean-Luc Picard—widely considered to be one of the most popular and recognizable characters in all of science fiction.

I'm really interested reading Una McCormack's novel about the characters being introduced for the Picard series. And find out what Picard's been doing after David Mack's novel Collateral damage.

Thanks for posting about the book. I was aware of the comic books. I guess now all the story continuity established by Pocket Books goes down the drain.

The books will still be there, just like the '80s novel continuity is still there, and like the classic DC Trek comics series is still there, and so forth. Every series comes to an end eventually, and the massive interconnected continuity Pocket has created over the past two decades will remain as a remarkable accomplishment that can be re-read or discovered for the first time, even if we do have to start over again with a different continuity. All fiction is equally unreal, so it doesn't make a fictional continuity any less valid if it's incompatible with another one. It just makes it an alternative exercise in creativity.

Oh, it's a truly amazing storyline and it has kept Star Trek alive and well, as far as I'm concerned. I love that has been one Star Trek that has included all the characters from all the 24th Century shows together. It'll be interesting to see for how much longer PocketBooks will continue it now that there will be new Trek on TV. I'll keep reading it for as long as it is there. :)

I used the comparison to all the various Superman continuities. There's room for Lois and Clark, the comics, and the Animated Series plus all the others.

Well we're about to get Crisis on Infinite Earths which will feature some of the various DC screen universes

I'm curious which new characters Last Best Hope is going to focus on, my guess would be Rio and Musker. They seem to be avoiding revealing anything about Dahj right now, so I can't see them giving her a book before the show starts, and it sounds like Countdown deals with Romulans, so that's probably where we're getting Elnor and Narek's backstories.
