As I have been recording episodes from Murder, She Wrote to my mother, I've noticed many actors from Star Trek in that show, has anyone else noticed this... here are some of the actors I've seen there...

In random order as I have seen them.

Q – John de Lancie
Hikaru Sulu - George Takei
Geordi La Forge - LeVar Burton
Odo – Rene Auberjonois
Captain Janeway – Kate Mulgrew
Chakotay – Robert Beltran
Tom Paris – Robert Duncan McNeill
Elim Garak – Andrew Robinson

Worf's father Sergey Rozhenko – Theodore Bikei (TNG – Family)
Rutian police chief Alexana Devos – Kerrie Keane (TNG – The High Ground)
William Riker's father Kyle Riker – Mitchell Ryan (TNG – The Icarus Factor)
Malcor III chancellor Avel Durken – George Coe (TNG – First Contact)
Admiral Alynna Nechayev – Natalia Nogulich (TNG – Chain of Command part 1)
”Fake” emissary Akorem Laan – Richard Libertini (DS9 - Accession)
General Krim – Stephen Macht (DS9 – The Circle)
Tahna Loss – Jeffrey Nordling (DS9 – Past Prologue)
Simon Tarses – Spencer Garrett (TNG – The Drumhead)
Data's ”mother” Juliana Tainer – Fionnula Flanagan (TNG - Inheritance)
Ardra – Marta Dubois (TNG – Devil's Due)
Admiral Leyton – Robert Foxworth (DS9 – Homefront)
Mirasta Yale – Carolyn Seymour (TNG – First Contact)
Michael Webb - Bill Smitrovich (DS9 – Past Tense)
Unnamed car driver - Christopher Curry (VGR – 11:59)
Lieutenant McNary – Gregory Itzin (TNG – The Big Goodbye)
Professor Galen – Norman Lloyd (TNG – The Chase)
Admiral Alidar Jarok - James Sloyan (TNG – The Defector)

And I'm forgetting something... at least 3 actors, so say my notes.

Some of the guest stars have appeared in more than the one episode mentioned.

Is the only connection between those shows and actors same agents perhaps?

As well as all those guest star crossovers (great list BTW), there's one other striking similarity between MSW and TOS I've noticed - soft focussing!

On TOS, many close-up shots of female faces were in soft focus, which I've always assumed was intended to achieve some kind of enhanced, dreamy, ethereal feminine beauty "haze".

With Angela Lansbury, I'm sure I read somewhere she insisted on it for her close-ups through pure vanity. I may be wrong though.

Most of those were actors who worked pretty steadily in Hollywood. Given that Murder, She Wrote ran for a very long time, it's no surprise that it used up a great deal of the talent pool. You could probably pick any other TV show from the era, or several decades earlier, and find a fair-sized list of actors it had in common with MSW.

And both series inspired long-running book franchises that outlived the original TV series by many, many years.

(Yes, they're still publishing Murder She Wrote novels.)

Cabot Cove, Maine, must be the per-capita murder capitol of the world! Just think of how many murders occurred there, or were tied to events and people, there!
Angela Lansbury would have made a good guest star on one of the Star Trek series, probably STNG or Deep Space 9.
I didn't know they were still publishing Murder, She Wrote books!

Yep, fuck going for a pleasant stroll along the beach there, most likely to get stabbed to death or shot.
Puts many urban metropolises to shame.

And there's more...

Latest discoveries!

Commodore Matt Decker – William Windom (TOS – The Domsday Machine)
Lieutenant Aquiel Uhnari – Renée Jones (TNG – Aquiel)
Vulcan captain – Kathleen Garrett (DS9 – Vortex)
Tanigan investigator Krag – Craig Richard Nelson (TNG - A Matter of Perspective)
Maggie – Ann Cusack (ENT – Carbon Creek)
Admiral Harry Morrow - Robert Hooks (The Search For Spock)
Admiral Patterson – Dakin Matthews (VGR - Relativity)
Tora Ziyal – Melanie Smith (DS9 – In Purgatory's Shadow)

Nana Visitor was in one of those ones where Angela Lansbury had a week off and they brought in another character to do the investigating instead.

Also featured in one of those episodes, was Data’s Daughter LAL, she is Dennis Stanton’s secretary in those episodes where Angela Lansbury only does the intro.

First, welcome to the board.

Second please take some time to review the rules of the board, pinned at the top of this forum.

This thread has been dead for over six years. Let’s let it rest, shall we?

Thanks
