ST: Bridge Commander

I decided to dig out this game, as I remember having hours of fun on my first PC (especially with all the mods installed). STO is fine for what it is and I do enjoy it, but BC always felt more fun. Having got myself a new PC, I found I'm having difficulty with actually installing the game.

I found a guide online which suggested running in compatibility mode for Windows XP (SP 3) and running the setup as an administrator, which I've done, but all to no avail. The install screen pops up when you click on "Setup", but nothing happens when you click on "install" (other than the menu then disappearing). The CD doesn't spin, etc.

I'm a little befuddled, as I cannot figure what the problem might be, especially as I see others online apparently running the game fine. I'm running Windows 10 64bit, an i7 6700K and a GTX 1080.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be most appreciative!

Have you tried opening the CD through the file explorer and locating the instal/setup file (as apposed to the autostart executable)?

Loved that game, especially after modding it, but Star Trek: Legacy (modded of course) replaced it for me.

Thanks for the rpely! Yes, I did try that, but no joy, unfortunately.

You know, I think I have a copy of Legacy, but only tried the first mission (I either was disappointed by it or was overwhelmed by other releases at the time). I may well go back to it. Are there any mods you would recommend? It was the modding community for BC that really kicked the game into gear.

I wish I was near my computer which has Windows 10 and ST:BC, where I had the same issue, but it's not in the same state as I am currently (though it is a Linux machine with Windows running in a virtual machine). I forgot what I did (if my previous advice didn't work) but I wish I remembered. The only reason BC beats Legacy is that you can load more ships in BC. Doing the retake of DS9 was always more fun in BC.

The modding community I'm used to for Legacy looks like it's dead. Moddb.com seems like a good place to check out. The Ultimate Universe Mod has a good bit of ships. Maybe you can remove the ships you don't like, keeping the rest.

No worries, I appreciate your help! I'll definitely check out Legacy in that case. It's probably way past time for a second look. :)

I've installed BC fine on my Windows 10 machine. I can't remember doing anything special when installing it - it just worked..... Perhaps try copying all the files on the local disk drive and try to install from there? You shoudl also try installing directly from teh CD Rom .exe file, rather than rely on Windows Autostart.......... My game works fine, and I have the Kobayashi Maru mods also all working ok.

Its just a shame the game randomly drops to desktop, too often!

I too really enjoyed Bridge Commander, I might give it a whirl, I've still got the disc.

But I've got Windows 7, I believe compatibility features haven't really changed between 7 and 10 so if, and it's a very big if because I can't get Elite Force to work either, I'll let you know if I have any luck and what worked for me.

I just installed it for the heck of it, and it works flawlessly, straight out of the box, on my version of Windows 10.

It is frustrating that there has not been any real successor to this title.
Yes, there are a couple of fan products in development but none of them are near completion, and Star Trek Bridge Crew is nothing like Bridge Commander.

I hate this Star Trek gaming "drought" we ST gamers are in. There hasn't been a significant single player projects since Star Trek the Video Game bombed.

I actually enjoyed that game, and I hope they make it XBox One compatible, because I'll buy it again.

There were a few issues with it for me.

1. I just don't like the new movie setting.
2. The game sometimes felt a bit to repetitive for its own good. (it also really felt like a Mass Effect clone sometimes)
3. Sometimes it was really broken to the point that I wonder how long the beta test phase was.

Sadly I feel it really tainted the well so to speak, making Star Trek an unattractive franchise to develop games with.

That sound like you didn't mod enough.

I feel mods should add to a game and that a game should be sufficiently strong to stand on its own when released.
