Spock's family name?

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
It's been said many times that Spock's family name, or first name, is hard to pronounce in English, but what about in any other human language? There's countries on our own planet where names are unpronouncable in English but are as simple as saying John Smith when said in there own native tongue.

So do you think Vulcan family names can be pronounced by any other human language?

Only in Welsh.

Maybe it's only pronounceable by the Dutch. Isn't it something like S'chn T'gai in some of the novels? I can imagine a horrible throaty sound right there..

In D.C. Fontana's novel "Vulcan's Glory", she gives Spock's full name as, IIRC, "Spock, son of Sarek of the House of Surak and the Noble Clan Telek sen-Deen".

Imagine it in Vulcan.

Hell, we have some Indian engineers at work that I've just given up pronouncing. Enough syllables already!!!

It might be that Spock has never found any human's pronunciation of "Spock" satisfactory to begin with. According to T'Pau, it's more like "Spaaark"...

Timo Saloniemi

Spock's full name is ...

"Spock Slartifbartfast Julie Andrews Dick Van Dyke Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Chim Chiminey Chim Chiminey Chim Chim Cher-ee Cesiumfrancolithicmyxialobidiumrixydixydoxidrexidroxhide Kangaroo Jack"

Anyone ever consider the possibility that humans can't physically say it properly? His mother said she could say it after a fashion and after years of practice, which seems to indicate she's not voicing it perfectly. Some of the name's component sounds might lie just outside the range possible for the human voicebox.

It's that little-known Vulcan extra larynx.

'Sekhn Tegai' pronounced with a horrible throat sound on 'khn', like when you try to clear your throat. No problem, I think.
