Soundtrack: What scenes with what Tracks?

**** dork alert **** AND **** spoiler alert ****

When i listen to Trek Soundtracks i like to imagine what is taking place in the movie at that time. I've seen the movie three times and its been a few weeks since my last viewing. I'm having a difficult time remembering what scenes are for some of the tracks.

Here's what i remember, and i could be remembering wrong. If anyone thinks they can fill in the empty scenes (or if i have any wrong) could you let me know please?

Thanks a bunch!

1. Star Trek ?

2. Nailin' The Kelvin (Kelvin vs Narada sequences) ?

3. Labor of Love (music behind George's death and James' birth) ?

4. Hella Bar Talk (talk between Pike & Kirk in the bar) ?

5. Enterprising Young Men (Title Card and the scenes of the cadets getting their assignments) ?

6. Nero Sighted (Enterprise vs Narada) ?

7. Nice to Meld You (Mind meld between Spock Prime and Kirk) ?

8. Run and Shoot Offense (Spock & Kirk fighting on the Narada) ?

9. Does it Still McFly? (Spock in Jellyfish) ?

10. Nero Death Experience (More fighting with Nero) ?

11. Nero Fiddles, Narad Burns (Nero's death) ?

12. Back from Black ?

13. That New Car Smell ?

14. To Boldly Go (Alexander Courage Theme)

15. End Credits (duh)

1. Star Trek - The music used under the Paramount/Spyglass/Bad Robot logos at the very start

2. Nailin' The Kelvin - Kelvin/Narada battle, starts after Robau's death

3. Labor of Love - JTK's birth / George's sacrifice

4. Hella Bar Talk - Starts at the very end of the Kirk/Pike bar talk, runs through Kirk riding up to the shuttle

5. Enterprising Young Men - Begins with the arial shot of the cadet shuttles leaving San Francisco, runs through when all the ships except Enterprise leave. An edited-down version is used under the main title card.

6. Nero Sighted - Enterprise/Narada battle above Vulcan, runs until about when Nero tells Ayel "Prepare the red matter."

7. Nice to Meld You - Was supposed to be for the mind meld sequence, this track is mostly not in the movie. The end of this track made it in, starting when Spock's ship is taken aboard the Narada, running through the end of the meld.

8. Run and Shoot Offense - Begins just after Kirk and Spock beam over to the Narada.

9. Does it Still McFly? - Begins just before Kirk and Spock board the jellyfish, runs through Spock blasting his way out of the Narada until Kirk confronts Nero and is blindsided by Ayel.

10. Nero Death Experience - Begins with the Kirk/Nero beatdown, ends when Kirk/Spock?Pike materialize on the Enterprise.

11. Nero Fiddles, Narada Burns - Begins in the transporter room, runs through the destruction of the Narada and the Enterprise getting caught in the black hole's gravity. The version in the movie is slightly different from the CD version.

12. Back from Black - Enterprise escapes from the black hole's gravity.

13. That New Car Smell - Starts with the Spock/Spock meeting in the Academy hanger, runs through the end of the movie when the whole crew is taking the Enterprise out.

14. To Boldly Go and 15. End Credits - Spock monologe and end credits.

i really liked the music when prime spock and kirk meet scotty to the beam out.
and yeah i suspected it wasnt there and now i see it confirmed.

i also would have liked the music when kirk and scotty beam in.
for one thing there are notes of the classic star trek theme in both.,

That second one, the musical piece that begins with the Kirk/Spock Prime connversation before the beamout and runs through the chase through engineering, is one of the two bits I most wish were on the CD. The other is the music used for the Academy hanger scene, leading into Enterprising Young Men.

And unfortunatly, other good music in the film not on the cd, notably:

- Pike's shuttle leaving the Enterprise droping Kirk, Sulu and Olsen over the platform
- Fight on the drilling platform (don't know why they never added this, its great)
- Some music when Robau talks to Ayel on the Kelvin and walks to the shuttle

According to my brother, who is way more of a soundtrack geek than I am, the reason is the fees the CD company has to pay to the movie company for the rights to release the music. Appearantly buying 40-some-odd minutes of music for a CD release is a lot cheaper than buying 60 or 70 minutes. LOTR is one of the few titles that can rely on enough sales to make it worth it.

Yep ... it's a shame because so much really good music is simply left behind.

Thank god for those LOTR Complete Recordings, though. Incredible music!

The guitar riff/bar music that's playing when they transition from Spock saying no to the Vulcan Science Academy--->Kirk bar scene isn't in the soundtrack either.

The most notable music that was missing for me was the leadup to Kirk, Sulu, and Olson jumping to the platform. I loved it as soon as I heard it on the pre-release clips. Overall, I was kinda disappointed in the CD. It had some phenominal songs (*****Enterprising Young Men*****, New Car Smell, End Credits, and Labor of Love), but a lot of the other music on the CD sounded the same with a few minor changes. There's not much that really sticks out to me on most of the songs that I didn't list, with the exception of one or two bits.

yeah i would have bought the cd (i got the chance to listen to it) if it had the tracks i mentioned.
to me the tracks i mentioned and some of the others were better then some that did make it onto the cd.

enterprising young men and labour of love are great though.
but not enough to plunk down the cash for the thing.

i just wish they would make it possible to by some of the other music.
maybe even set it up somehow to make your own cd by chosing certain parts of the score.

Well, we can always rip the soundtrack when the DVD comes out. I listen to Trek soundtracks all the time on iPod. I've got "Man Trap" going now.

Two previous movies come to mind with stupid cd track decisions:

Generations, they added sound effects at the end of the cd instead of adding missed tracks like the whole "Fight with Soran on the obseratory when the shockwave is coming" I love that music yet its missing from the CD.

First Contact, adding Obe Doobie and Magic Carpet Ride, while excluding alot of tracks like 'Flight of the Pheonix' . Luckily, for me, I was able to get hold of 3 of these missing tracks through other channels, and still I am bewildered on whey they were never used on the cd.

I enjoyed the score on CD, more often than those around me would like :P

But I wish they had certain addtional cues, notably the following:

- Platform fight with Sulu's hero shot. Great action scoring there.
- Spock beaming down to Vulcan to rescue the council.
- Pike, Kirk, Spock, Sulu and Olsen walking through Engineering, through to the trio being dropped from Pike's shuttle for the space dive.
- The sequence where veryone was assigned to their ships, and McCoy gives Kirk the Vaccine for the virus from the Laveran Mud Flee.
- Spock Prime telling kirk that he is emotionally compromised, and the beamout to Engineering.
- The monster chase.

That is one of my favorite moments of unreleased music. That heroic variation of the main theme really helps to emphasize Sulu's badass-ness.:klingon:

Yeah, I'd be really surprised if a "fan edition" soundtrack didn't start hitting the torrent sites as soon as the DVD comes out.
