Sort of an odd question.... Picardo's (the Doctor's) eye... Ummm...

I've never heard anything about this, so please excuse my not keeping up if it's something widely known.

If you look at the earliest episodes and photos from the same time, Picardo seems to have a turn in one of his eyes. (I forget which.)

Later, it's totally gone, and his two eyes look normal.

Does he, the actor, actually have one artificial eye and did they do something so it finally looked in the same direction as the other?

Again, I'm sorry if this is known, and if it isn't and sounds strange to anyone, it's not. Trust me, there is something off with one of his eyes in the earliest part of the series.

Does anyone know what the facts are?

I have noticed the same thing. Perhaps he had a squint, "lazy eye", and he got it fixed.

Really? I'm afraid I never noticed something like that with his eyes. Is anyone able to link to screencaps?

Hm, I think I see what you mean. Thanks for the image, Tachyon. I actually never noticed that.

In the season 1 episodes his eyes looked like this, but I think he got the situation fixed somewhere during season 2, I think.

My son has had a convergent squint (lazy eye) since birth. He had orthoptic therapy, eye-patching and glasses from the age of 2. He is now 24. His squint is only noticeable now if he is very tired or is unwell.

My niece has had the same situation since her birth. She's now 10, but her squint is still very noticeable without her glasses.

My son rarely needs to wear his glasses anymore - only when he's doing very fine detailed work or doing long hours at work (he's in IT).

Re: Sort of an odd question.... Picardo's (the Doctor's) eye... Ummm

Yeah, I noticed that when I first started watching VOY and thought it was a little odd because his character was a hologram. I had totally forgotten about that. Good eye! (pun intended) ;)

Re: Sort of an odd question.... Picardo's (the Doctor's) eye... Ummm

I had noticed that as well in year one of the show. I think he did have a lazy eye and I remember him saying that he couldn't really see without his glasses..could be wrong on that one. I remember in the ep "State of Flux" the Doc was trying to tell Janeway about Seska being born Cardassian. When he was looking at Janeway, he looked like he was looking at the camera with one of his eyes. Really weird. But I've heard that if it is a lazy eye it can be fixed.
And don't worry..it's ok to notice stuff later on..shoot, I notice things years after a show is through. So you're not alone on this one!

Re: Sort of an odd question.... Picardo's (the Doctor's) eye... Ummm

"lazy eye" can be fixed either through surgery or combined orthoptic/glasses therapy.

^ Eye Eye, Ma'am!

Sorry. I will accept whatever pun-ishment you decide is appropriate.

These jokes are very cornea.

Re: Sort of an odd question.... Picardo's (the Doctor's) eye... Ummm

I think the eye lens itself well to these gags.

Re: Sort of an odd question.... Picardo's (the Doctor's) eye... Ummm

LOL! Someone should ask him at the next convention he's at...

"So... Robert... what was it like working with Kate Mulgrew... and what the hell happened to your googly eye??"
