Slumdog Millionaire DVD. FOX SCREWS UP DVD!

Just some warning to those that are looking to buy Slumdog this week. Don't. Looks like FOX screwed up one of the biggest dvd releases of the year. Slumdog Millionaire dvds that have been released contain zero extras when the back of the case clearly says deleted scenes and commentary. Apparently this was because of a mixup and they are selling people the no extras dvd versions that were supposed to be for rental only.

You can also check on Amazon for reviews of the screwed up dvds.

It's probably best to wait until FOX releases the corrected versions before buying if you care about extras.

*EDIT:* Here is some new news about how to replace your Slumdog dvd for free.

We've been receiving a ton of emails here at Cinematical from folks who bought bad copies of the Slumdog Millionaire DVD. What happened was that some DVDs entered the marketplace without any of the special features on them; one Cinematical reader wrote in to say that all he got was the movie and a few trailers. Over on Amazon, their review wall is packed with folks complaining about receiving a botched DVD, and good news is the retailer has finally issued an alert for those of you who got screwed. See below:

*DVD Alert*: We are aware that special features were missing from a number of Slumdog Millionaire DVDs. Fox has set up a hotline telephone number (1-888-223-4FOX) for those consumers who may have purchased a version that does not contain special features. Upon calling the hotline, these consumers will be able to have their disc replaced for one containing special features. Fox regrets any inconvenience this has caused.

I don't think the movie is worth buying for any reason.

I just got it from netflix today and watched it for the first time. What is all the hype about? Its an OK movie, but no more that that.

Oh, and the subtitles SUCK! I gave up on trying to read them a couple minutes into the movie.

Save your money.

Well, that saves me a trip to the store for a bit. Definitely want to own the movie; I really liked it, as did the folks.

It was a conspiracy by the theatre owners who are still showing Slumdog!:p

I still can't believe how FOX screwed this up. How the hell could they have fucked up the dvd release for the most recent movie that won Best Picture!? How hard would it have been to check a dvd before okaying the release?! I guess FOX doesn't give a damn.

I really wanted to buy the movie and see it but it looks like I'm going to have to wait... :shifty:

Crap! And I was looking forward to the extras!

...

Why do rental DVDs not get any extras?

I wouldn't worry -too much- about buying the DVD now. Surely they'll have a replacement program in place to send them your "incorrect" DVD and they'll ship you the corrected one.

I loved this movie, BTW. Fantastic film. And I had no problems with the subtitles.

Same here.
Its a movie that once you've seen it once doesn't warrant multiple rewatchings. There is no deep metaphors or psychology going on in this movie. Its not even fun in a way that would make you desire to rewatch it for its sequences.

It was a good one time viewing movie. Was it deserving of some attention, perhaps. However this movie only proves once again by winning 8 Oscars that Hollywood doesn't really know what is good.

In 10yrs when Entertainment Weekly does its Retro Awards like it did recently Slumdog will be one that is shown to not have survived fondly.

I enjoyed it. Maybe it deserved all its awards, maybe not. But I agree - it is certainly a movie that once I saw it, I never needed to see it again. One of the mistakes I made early on when collecting DVDs was to purchase good movies as opposed to "re-watchable". I have at least 20 DVDs still in the plastic.

Looks like Fox has set up a dvd replacement program but I've heard from other boards that the operator has no clue when the corrected dvds will be sent out. I'm going to wait for the corrected dvds to appear in stores in a few weeks(?) since it's too much hassle for me to call. This is one time I'm glad I usually don't buy a dvd on the first day it is released.

Here is the information.

I remember reading a story about this move not long ago. Fox thinks they will sell more DVDs if they pull all the extras from the rental discs. I see they are off to a great start.

This reminds me of that whole ''X-3'' debacle. They released it with extra scenes that were supposed to be for a future ''special release''

It's not even like the extras on it were all that great to prompt someone to buy the DVD over renting it.

Though I *was* looking forward to the commentary.

That was an example of a GOOD screwup by FOX. I managed to get the version with the extra deleted scenes.:rommie:

So did my sister!:techman: She laughed when she heard that FOX wanted ayone who got those DVD'S to bring them back in exchange for the one without the ''deleted'' scenes! How STUPID do they think we are anyway?

How do you know it's only an okay movie if you only watched two minutes?

You misread my post.

Maybe I should have used subtitles.
