Sims 2: Apartment Life

And as for the little "annoyances" theres a site called 'More Awesome Than You (MATY)' that has hundreds of little hacks that fix things like that, create a new folder, dump them in and the game suddenly becomes much less annoying to play. ;) such as for less than a couple of megabytes quite a few things from Free Time are changed/fixed.

I've been going to that site for years...and at every other site Pescado was at before MATY as well.

In the Sims community, Pescado is essentially a god. ;)

There are a couple of his annoyance hacks that I simply would not fire up the game without. In particular, the nobabyharassment hack is a lifesaver for my sims. I cannot even begin to imagine how many adult sims I'd have killed off by now if it wasn't for that hack.

Because left to their own devices, adult sims seem completely incapable of leaving sleeping babies and toddlers the hell ALONE. Way annoying.

Trekker, you're like our "main guy" when it comes to The Sims 2. Have you got the Apartment Life expansion pack yet? Or has anyone, for that matter. It's supposed to be on sale at Circuit City today, though Target won't have it available until Thursday. Can't wait for the reviews.

^Actually PKTrekGirl and myself comprise the "Main guys" here since Trekker seems to have not even known this pack existed for months after we all got the memo lol.

Its out here Friday so expect me to get right back to you when I get it and play it. :techman:

I wish I could afford it now. I would love to play it! Let me know if it has any new career tracks included.

Go to Wikipedia, to go the Sims 2 page, scroll down to the expansion pack list, click on the link to Apartment Life, theres a whole load of information there on it. :)

Didn't know it was out yet, lost track of it. I'll check stores tonight or tomorrow for it.

I guess Target started selling it on Wednesday (08/27); I already got my copy. ;)

I haven't quite fully explored this game yet, but so far, i.m.h.o., the game dynamics are better than the last expansion, i.e., Free Time. (Gosh, has it been a few months already since its release?)

The latest feature allows you to play sims living in "multi-family units," with a number of sim households living in one residential lot. Note, however, that you're still playing one family/household at a time. The only difference is that there are a lot more interactions amongst the sims (both townies and your other sims).

There's the all new "Magic" aspect of the game (likely an homage to Sims 1's Makin' Magic). Reading only from the game manual, I don't really know much about this except that there appear to be NPCs--witches and warlocks, which I haven't seen yet--in the game that your sims can consult with and from which they can learn magic spells.

Other New Features of Interest:

* New actions like Wash Face and Jump Rope
* New objects (Spiral Staircase, Vending Machine)
* Reputation - Basically gauges a sim's popularity and interpersonal appeal to other sims
* New Neighborhood - Belladonna Cove

When I first loaded my custom-made neighborhood of Davisville, I did not see any pre-made apartment buildings in the House Bin, probably because I created the neighborhood itself. So my initial reaction was, "So where are the apartments?" I ended up uprooting some from Belladonna Cove and transplanting them into Davisville.

Two things that are kind of a let-down (for me):

* The pre-made condos, townhomes, and apartment complexes pretty much stay the way they are. In other words, the Build Mode is quite limited in that you basically cannot make changes to the structure, windows or doors of the apartment.

* Objects (in Buy Mode, Career Rewards, etc.) are not allowed outside the confines of one's household. In other words, if you wanted to add an exercise machine outside of your own sim's apartment, you wouldn't be able to do so.

Overall, it's a good expansion pack. I understand this will be the final expansion for Sims 2 before Sims 3 is released next year.

Huh...after looking over the video walk-through and trailer on the website I'm a little surprised to hear magic is involved in this expansion pack because I don't think I saw even a hint of it in any of the videos. Oh well.

Well, I have to wait until can get my hands on a copy of Windows (since I've switched to mac I need to set up bootcamp) until I can play the Sims, so I'll have to wait until I'm back in the US next month at least to get to check out Apartment life but it does look like fun. Can't wait to hear what you guys have to say about the game play.

Well, to be fair, apartment complexes and condo owners kind-of frown on you tearing down walls, erecting new ones, replacing windows and erecting/placing equipment on community grounds. ;)

I haven't picked up my copy yet, although it's reserved at Game Stop.

The Trek uniform is lame, IMO - old TNG uniforms. I hope they have FC uniforms or something - they look better. Those old TNG uniforms are the ugliest Trek uniforms of all.

As for magic, I really liked the Makin' Magic EP. After Unleashed, it was my favorite TS1 EP, in fact!

I'm actually looking forward to the magic. If it isn't lame, and the apartment part of the thing will let me do as I like, I plan to do a Hogwarts. :D

That makes sense. Though I have to admit I want a little more control over the structures. I say screw the landlord.

Yeah I'm looking forward to it too, someone will be going to town tomorrow to pick up my copy. :D

I've installed it today, but have been busy with other projects to mess with it. But from what I seen I like it.

Here's how to build your own apartments, as you can't do with the game tools at hand.

Start a new lot, build it as you see fit (making sure to use the apartment doors to seperate the units) and before you exit and save:

Ctrl+Shift+C to open the Cheat bar.

"changelotzoning apartmentbase" will "rezone" the lot as an apartment. Next time you enter it it should have the multi-unit mailbox and be an apartment.

To change an exsisting lot open the cheat window and type "changelotzoning residential" save, exit, and re-enter and the lot and the regular tools will be available to you. To re-zone the lot as an apartment follow the above instructions.

Thanks for the cheats. I'll try those. I actually thought about making my own apartment building last night but figured it would take too long. I used the pre-existings ones from Belladonna Cove.

Installed mine this morning and went looking around the new neighbourhood and a few of its residents. Found a couple of Witches already heh.

I like the new helicopter, the spiral staircases will come in very handy for several of my lots, haven't had time to let them go shopping for the new clothes, the ceiling option can be turned on or off quickly, some nice new items, but very little else added that I saw.

Then again I didn't get to check all the new interactions and the apartments so I'll be spending most of the afternoon playing. :D

The Trek uniforms aren't in it, I've looked everywhere and they aren't available amongst all the new clothes, and there are no new careers for them to be a 'special' outfit for like some others. Must have had to remove them at the last minute.

Installed it and...

No problem with Freetime, now this...

Hmm. I had no problem installing and running the expansion. Maybe you need a patch from the EA website?

I did a clean install, including all the patches and it still happened...
But there are more people having problems with it, even the digital download version if i go by the number of threads on the Sims2 forum...

http://bbs.thesims2.ea.com/communit...4,item.41,item.127,item.23&hideFramework=true

THere is no patch for it yet btw and in every thread the mods ask the same stuff: "What are your PC's specs?"

Question: Where do you find the witch or warlock? I have never seen any of them since I started playing Apartment Life. I haven't been to any of the community lots (Downtown, Bluewater Village, etc.), assuming those are their hang-out places.

The apartments really work out well for my sims. Some of the buildings are pretty upscale that they look more like condos and townhomes. Also, I've been "aging and retiring" my first-generation sims; the apartments are just the perfect retirement venues for them. Before this expansion, I had thought about creating a multi-unit residential building but realized that it could only accommodate up to eight sims at a time.
