Deadline has announced that fan favorite Supernatural character Sheriff Jody Mills is possibly getting her own spin-off. The series, titled Wayward Sisters, a reference to the song ,Carry On My Wayward Son which is often used on the mother series, will focus on Sheriff Mills as takes in a group of young women who have been orphaned by supernatural (or Supernatural) occurrences and turns them into a monster fighting team. So far Kim Rhodes, who plays Mills is the only actor signed on, but they are in talks to bring in more cast members, with the most obvious possibilities being Jody's friend Sheriff Donna Hanscomb and her foster daughters Alex and Claire.
I'm actually pretty happy about this, Jody and Donna have been highlights of the last few seasons, and I would happily watch a show focused on them.
Deadline says that the show has come about as a result of a fan campaign, which was also embraced by cast members.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm a fan of Jody Mills, so this is good news to me. Looking forward to the series.

Did they ever do anything more with the werewolf girl from a season or two back?

^^ I don't think so.

This is great news, and much better than their last lame attempt at a spinoff. They've had a bunch of great characters over the years that they could have used (I'd still love to see the Golem again) for a spinoff, and Sheriff Jody is at the top of the list. They should just go ahead with it and not even bother with a backdoor pilot.

Sounds like this thing has been kicking around a bit and may already have seen its backdoor pilot. I didn't watch SPN this season so I'm only going off what I'm reading.

I'm curious if this will actually fly with the female audience at large as well as they hope.

The title Wayward Sisters sounds a little bit like one of those late-night movies that show up on Showtime or CInemax.

There wasn't really one in season 12, but in season 11 the episode "Don't You Forget About Me" was basically exactly that.

Yeah, but that was with an entirely new cast who we'd never seen before the backdoor pilot, this is based around one, and possibly at least 4 character's fans are familiar with and already like. People have been asking for this since Jody Mills' second or third appearance.

I just found her on the Supernatural wiki, and Kate aka the werewolf girl, did make a second appearance, and the episode ended with her alive and back on the road. She seems to me like someone who could easily pop up on here. Aaron and The Golem could be fun to if they want to have some guys in the cast.

Didn't they already try to start a Chicago(?) based Spin off a few years ago?
That was the lame one I cited.

Aaron had a cameo in one episode, on the phone, but I'd like to see him and the Golem back in action. It would be great to see Kate again. I think Garth is still alive, too.

It's a crying shame that they killed of Felicia Day's character.
That was one of the two stupidest things they've ever done, along with killing Bobby.

^On this show, being dead is no obstacle for a character to show up again. Hell, half the time it's the whole point. ;)

True enough. If they could find a way to bring back Charlie, either for the spinoff or the main show, I'd be one happy camper.

If you don't want to click, the cast will be returning characters Jody, Claire, Alex and Donna, and then a new character who will be the granddaughter of Missouri Moseley (psychic from season 1 who will reappear in season 13).

This is fantastic. I was hoping that they'd sign on all four actresses for the spinoff, but I thought I was being a little too optimistic. I'm glad it all worked out.

That's good news, but it means a friend of mine won't be watching-- she can't tolerate Claire at all.

I am WAY up for this, but I must admit that having two male showrunners and two male executive producers, all from a show not renowned for its great treatment of women, now running a show with five female lead characters leaves me slightly hesitant.
