SG: Continuum - Cam sent to 1929

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
In 1928 the Giza Stargate had just been uncovered and then got shipped out 11 years later on the Achilles to America. Does this mean that the Gate was standing for those 11 years which meant that Mitchell could come through at that point. If so I'd imagine that it would have always been monitored which means that Mitchell would've been seen coming through. By coming though in plain view would he not have had the authorities on him and have him detained? How would he have got away from them?

Mitchell arrived at night. No one saw, because they were all asleep. Security sucked, so he was able to slip away undetected and signed up onto Grampa's boat.

Well, apparently, he didn't have to shoot anyone. Beyond that, who knows. Maybe it was midnight

"Hey, Bob, why do the statues were were keeping in front of the big stone ring look like someone attacked them with a giant flaming melon-baller?"

"I don't know, vandalism?"

Not necessarily. Remember, the Stargate was considered an artifact, and like most artifacts it probably spent its time in a dark corner of a remote, dusty warehouse.

Mitchell could have come and gone probably hundreds of times and no one would be the wiser.

I watched this the other day and
I'm pretty sure he came through in 1939, as I tought his gradfather asked 'who the hell are you"
like he was saying you weren't on the ship when it left.

When Carter was looking for the right flare that would send them back she shouted over to Mitchel that she found one but it would only send them to 1929 and Mitchell said 10 years was better than nothing. As for him getting on the boat, he must've just snuck on board some how.

^He's a member of SG-1. SG-1 have snuck on to ships a lot more heavily guarded than an old freighter in their time. He has USAF Special Forces training roughly 75 years ahead of anyone else's at the time too.

And he looked like the captain, which was probably a plus if anyone saw him in the corridor or something.

Good thought,but no.

Cam Mitchell was a crewmember aboard Achilles, and there's several reasons why. One,Mitchell had 10 years to prepare. Its reasonable to assume he could have become a seasoned mariner in that time, enough so that he could be hired by his grandfather. And claiming family relation couldn't hurt at the job interview.

The second evidence is found on-screen whence Mitchell orders the crewman to take a weapon ,as he explains offhand they're being boarded.

Now,if a stowaway stuck a gun in my hand, said we were being boarded, and with the cargo we took aboard making noise, I'd point the stowaways own gun back at him and start asking ?'s.

But no,the crewman takes the Thompson and stands post in front of what appears to be an average box ,to his understanding.Without question or hesitation.

After that scene, the captain comes down with his revolver to see several dead Jaffa and a hole in his ship.If Cam was a complete stranger the captain would at this point *also* be aiming at Cam,with some very good questions on his mind. But no,the man in charge puts down the pistol and asks Cam what happened-as he would ask someone he knows, not an armed stowaway.

^There's no evidence to support your theory beyond what you would have done.

The evidence that Cam came through ten years earlier is on screen, both in dialogue and in how much older he looks.

Since Cam wouldn't know the exact day and time of the attack he would have to have been on the crew for some time, be on the ship always and eventually he will be there at the right point to make a difference.

My impression was that the crewman thought Mitchell was the captain (since it was dark), and the captain just wanted to know who this mysterious stranger was who saved his ship.

Yeah, I suppose the assumption is that he laid low, found a way to get onto the ship - notice that he wears the exact same clothes as the Captain - and then snuck off the ship after he took out Baal and presumably went back into hiding... probably some time after that picture was taken.

^Nobody who'd spent more than five minutes hanging around with Samantha Carter would risk polluting the timeline anymore than necessary, so before and after stopping Ba'al he would have lived somewhere very quiet where he'd do as little damage as possible.

There's also nothing saying that Cam gated to Earth from Ba'al's planet. The necessary wormhole might have gone to a different planet in 1929. He could also then spend a few years offworld so as to not pollute the timeline (as much).
